Two years after reopening its doors, The Surrey, A Corinthia Hotel, has cemented its position as a cornerstone of New York's luxury hospitality scene. The property, which debuted in October 2024 following a comprehensive redesign by Martin Brudnizki, has become a magnet for high-profile guests and industry recognition, including a spot on Condé Nast Traveller's 2025 Hot List and Two MICHELIN Keys.
Located on the Upper East Side, The Surrey blends the neighborhood's historic character with contemporary design. The hotel has also emerged as a key player during Met Gala week, hosting celebrities such as Zendaya and Cardi B, which has bolstered its reputation as a go-to for A-list travelers seeking discretion and style.
Corinthia's North American debut
As Corinthia Hotels' first property in North America, The Surrey represents a strategic entry into the U.S. market for the Malta-based group. The hotel's arrival has been closely watched by industry peers, given Corinthia's established presence in Europe and the Middle East. The property's success could pave the way for further Corinthia expansion across the Americas.
The hotel offers 70 guest rooms, 30 suites, and 14 private residences, catering to both short-stay travelers and those seeking a more permanent pied-à-terre. The accommodations are designed to feel residential, with a focus on privacy and personalized service—a formula that has resonated with luxury travelers.
Casa Tua and signature suites
A key differentiator is the on-site Casa Tua, an Italian and Mediterranean-inspired restaurant, lounge, and private members' club. This marks the brand's first location in New York, adding a social dimension that appeals to both hotel guests and local members. The venue has quickly become a dining destination in its own right.
The Surrey also introduced four signature suites inspired by Central Park, offering views and design elements that nod to the adjacent green space. These suites are positioned as top-tier accommodations for discerning guests, with rates reflecting the property's luxury positioning—starting at US$1,000 per night for a Deluxe King Room.
Wellness and spa offerings
The Surrey Spa, operated in partnership with Sisley Paris, provides a range of specialist treatments, including the signature Black Rose facial. This wellness component aligns with broader trends in luxury hospitality, where spa and longevity offerings are increasingly central to the guest experience. As noted in recent coverage of Asia's wellness travel evolution, such amenities are becoming key differentiators for high-end properties.
The hotel's emphasis on privacy and residential-style comfort also speaks to a growing demand among luxury travelers for spaces that feel like a home away from home. This approach is echoed in other markets, such as the opening of Nepal's first luxury wellness retreat, which similarly prioritizes seclusion and holistic well-being.
With its combination of design, dining, and wellness, The Surrey has positioned itself as a benchmark for urban luxury in New York. As the hotel enters its third year, industry observers will be watching to see how it builds on its early momentum and whether Corinthia leverages this success to expand its North American footprint.
