Jakarta Marriott Hotel Gelora, the debut Marriott Hotels property in Indonesia's capital, has named Manoj Rawat as its general manager. Rawat brings more than 25 years of international hospitality experience, spanning Indonesia, India, and Australia, to the role.

Rawat's career began in culinary arts, with stints at Grand Hyatt New Delhi and Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park. He later moved into leadership positions at The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali, where he oversaw major international events, including the 2018 IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings.

Prior to this appointment, Rawat served as multi-property general manager for The Westin Nirup Island Resort & Spa and Batam Marriott Harbour Bay. He was instrumental in the opening of The Westin Nirup Island Resort & Spa in June 2025, and his leadership contributed to revenue growth and high guest satisfaction scores.

Rawat has completed executive education programmes at Cornell University. He is known for prioritising team development and service excellence, which he sees as key to delivering the brand's signature heartfelt service.

Focus on business and leisure travel

In his new role, Rawat aims to position Jakarta Marriott Hotel Gelora as a leading destination for both business and leisure travellers. The hotel, located in the Gelora Bung Karno area, is well placed to cater to the city's growing MICE and corporate travel segments.

Jakarta's hotel market has been steadily recovering, with international arrivals climbing and business travel rebounding. The arrival of Marriott Hotels in the capital underscores the brand's confidence in Indonesia's long-term tourism prospects.

Rawat's appointment comes amid a series of Marriott-related developments across Asia. For instance, new Marriott properties in South Korea have recently opened, and the group continues to expand its footprint in the region.

Industry observers note that strong leadership is critical for new hotel openings, especially in competitive markets like Jakarta. Rawat's track record in opening and managing properties in Indonesia will be an asset as he takes on this flagship role.

He will also focus on leveraging Marriott Bonvoy, the group's loyalty programme, to drive direct bookings and guest engagement. The programme has been a key driver for Marriott's growth, with recent initiatives such as the co-branded card launch in Korea.

Rawat's leadership style is collaborative, and he is known for mentoring young talent. He believes that investing in staff is essential to delivering exceptional guest experiences.

As Jakarta Marriott Hotel Gelora begins operations, the industry will be watching how Rawat translates his experience into a successful launch. His appointment signals Marriott's commitment to establishing a strong presence in Indonesia's capital.
