The Peninsula Hotels has strengthened its position among the world's elite hospitality brands, with three properties earning recognition on The 50 Best Hotels 2026 list. The announcement, made on 15 September at Les Salles du Carrousel in Paris, saw The Peninsula Istanbul rank 31st, The Peninsula Hong Kong 46th, and The Peninsula Shanghai debut on the extended list at 99th.
Benjamin Vuchot, Executive Director and CEO of The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels Limited, the group's parent company, said the results reflect the dedication of staff across the recognized properties. "This achievement reflects the extraordinary commitment of our colleagues across our recognised properties," he stated.
Flagship property climbs the rankings
The Peninsula Hong Kong, which has operated since 1928, made its first appearance in the top 50 after previously ranking 54th. The hotel, a cornerstone of the group's portfolio, continues to attract both international travellers and local patrons. With its centenary approaching in 2028, the property remains a benchmark for luxury service in Asia.
The Peninsula Istanbul, which opened in 2023 along the Bosphorus, has quickly become a landmark in the city. The property blends historic architecture with contemporary amenities, and its inclusion makes it the only Turkish hotel on the list. The recognition underscores the group's ability to establish a strong presence in new markets.
The Peninsula Shanghai, situated on the Bund, was recognized for its combination of modern comfort and cultural immersion. The hotel's debut on the extended list highlights the brand's growing influence in mainland China, a key market for luxury travel.
The 50 Best Hotels list, now in its second year, has become a significant reference point for luxury travellers and industry professionals. The inclusion of three Peninsula properties signals the group's consistent performance across different regions and market segments.
For travel advisors and luxury tour operators, the rankings provide a useful benchmark when recommending properties to discerning clients. The Peninsula's strong showing may also influence corporate travel programmes and MICE planners seeking high-end venues in Istanbul, Hong Kong, and Shanghai.
As the group continues to expand, with properties in London, Paris, and other global cities, the recognition reinforces its reputation for delivering consistent, high-quality hospitality. The results also come at a time when the luxury hotel sector is seeing increased competition from both established brands and new entrants.
Industry observers will be watching whether the group can maintain its momentum in future editions of the list. For now, the three placements serve as a testament to the group's operational excellence and its ability to adapt to evolving traveller expectations.
