SeAH Aerospace & Defence (SeAH AD) has signed a long-term agreement to supply high-strength aluminium alloy materials to Airbus, marking the first time a Korean company has entered the European airframer's supply chain. The deal was formalised at the Farnborough International Airshow 2026 and positions SeAH AD as a significant new player in the global aviation materials market.

The company will begin the quality certification process in the second half of 2025, with full-scale production and supply expected to commence by 2028. This timeline aligns with Airbus's need to address supply chain bottlenecks driven by rising aircraft demand and limited availability of materials that meet stringent aerospace specifications. SeAH AD's advanced process control technology and quality standards were key factors in securing the agreement.

Expanding global footprint beyond Boeing

SeAH AD's entry into the Airbus supply chain builds on its recent success with Boeing and expands its global footprint in a market traditionally dominated by European and US companies. The company currently supplies materials to Israel Aerospace Industries and Embraer, and a new manufacturing facility in Changnyeong, Korea, set to begin operations in 2027, will further bolster its capacity to meet global demand. This expansion comes as airlines worldwide continue to place large orders, such as Philippine Airlines ordering 24 widebodies from both Boeing and Airbus earlier this year.

At the Farnborough Airshow, SeAH AD plans to showcase its achievements in supplying aluminium alloy materials for various aviation and defence applications. The company will highlight its process control technology, which ensures both lightweighting and structural stability in aircraft components—a critical factor for modern airframes like the Airbus A350 and A320neo family.

"Securing a place in the Airbus supply chain is a significant milestone that validates the superior quality and reliable delivery of our high-strength aluminium alloys on the global stage," said a SeAH AD representative.

As SeAH AD advances towards final certification, it aims to cement its position as a leading global aviation materials company representing Asia. The move also reflects broader trends in the aerospace supply chain, where diversification away from traditional European and US sources is becoming increasingly important. For travel industry professionals, this development signals potential improvements in aircraft delivery timelines as supply constraints ease.

The deal comes amid a period of significant activity in the aviation sector, including Air Canada and Airbus launching a $137M SAF co-investment platform for the Canadian market, and Philippine Airlines ordering nine Airbus A350-1000s to support long-haul growth. These developments underscore the increasing demand for both aircraft and the materials needed to build them.

SeAH AD's new facility in Changnyeong will be equipped with state-of-the-art production lines capable of meeting the rigorous quality standards required by Airbus. The company's process control technology is designed to ensure consistent material properties across large production runs, a critical requirement for high-volume aircraft manufacturing. This capability will be essential as Airbus ramps up production rates for its best-selling A320neo and A350 programmes.

For travel industry stakeholders—from airline executives to tour operators—the expansion of the supplier base for aerospace-grade aluminium is a positive sign. It suggests that the industry is taking steps to mitigate the supply chain risks that have contributed to delivery delays in recent years. As SeAH AD moves through the certification process, the company will be closely watched by procurement teams across the aviation sector.
