Sheraton Hotels & Resorts has expanded its South Korea footprint with the opening of the Sheraton Jeju Hotel in Jeju City. The 402-room property, located five minutes from Jeju International Airport, is the brand's second in the country after the Sheraton Grand Incheon Hotel. It overlooks the Tapdong waterfront and is positioned as a social hub for both visiting tourists and the local community.

Facilities and design

The hotel's centerpiece is a 100-metre infinity pool designed for year-round use, complemented by an indoor lap pool and a family pool. A fitness centre is also available. For events, the property features a grand ballroom that can accommodate up to 1,500 guests, equipped with advanced audiovisual systems, making it a viable option for MICE groups.

Dining venues include Daily Social, an all-day restaurant, and &More, a lounge offering light bites and beverages. The design incorporates natural materials and warm tones that reflect Jeju's coastal landscape. Guest rooms range from King and Twin configurations to a Presidential Suite.

The lobby, branded as 'The World's Gathering Place', includes Sheraton's signature Community Table, intended to foster interaction in a warm and functional environment.

Strategic significance

Duke Nam, Regional Vice President for South Korea, Vietnam, and the Philippines at Marriott International, commented: "The opening of Sheraton Jeju marks an important milestone as we bring one of Marriott International's most global brands to one of Korea's most beloved island destinations."

The property is part of Marriott Bonvoy, allowing members to earn and redeem points. This opening strengthens Marriott's presence in South Korea and adds to the Sheraton brand's global portfolio. It also aligns with broader trends in the region, such as the recent partnership between Fliggy and Eastar Jet to boost China-Korea travel, indicating growing demand for connectivity and hospitality in the area.

Jeju Island has long been a popular destination for both domestic and international tourists, and the new Sheraton is expected to cater to this influx. The hotel's proximity to the airport and its extensive meeting facilities position it as a key player in the island's MICE sector.

Marriott International continues to expand its portfolio across Asia, and the Sheraton Jeju is a notable addition. The property's design and amenities aim to appeal to business and leisure travelers alike, with a focus on creating a communal atmosphere.

For travel professionals, the opening represents an opportunity to offer clients a new upscale option in Jeju, particularly for those seeking a blend of leisure and business facilities. The hotel's year-round pool and event spaces make it suitable for a variety of group functions.

As the travel industry recovers, hotel openings like this signal confidence in the region's tourism prospects. The Sheraton Jeju is poised to become a landmark property on the island, contributing to the local economy and enhancing the destination's appeal.
