Sun Siyam Pasikudah, part of the Privé Collection, has introduced the Aqua Lounge, a solar-powered floating dining platform on Pasikudah Bay. This 400-square-foot structure, built from sustainable timber and recyclable barrels, is the first of its kind on Sri Lanka's east coast, offering guests a fine-dining experience directly on the Indian Ocean.

Sustainable Design and Culinary Experience

The platform is powered entirely by solar energy, aligning with the resort's Sun Siyam Cares sustainability programme. Guests can enjoy a seven-course menu inspired by local coastal flavors, with options for sunset cocktails and champagne breakfasts upon request. The platform's design emphasizes minimal environmental impact while providing an immersive ocean experience.

"Pasikudah Bay is extraordinary... We wanted to put guests right at the centre of that. Not looking at the ocean from the shore, but actually sitting on it," said Arshed Refai, General Manager of Sun Siyam Pasikudah.

Community Engagement and CSR

Beyond luxury dining, the Aqua Lounge serves a community purpose. Local school children are regularly brought to the platform as part of the resort's corporate social responsibility programme, where they engage in discussions about the bay's coral reef ecosystem. This initiative underscores the property's commitment to environmental education and local engagement.

Sun Siyam Pasikudah offers 34 pavilions along Sri Lanka's unspoiled coastline, integrating sustainability into operations from solar lighting to waste management. The resort also runs a Summer Offer valid until 31 October 2027, providing savings on room upgrades, dining, and spa treatments.

This launch comes as luxury resorts in the Indian Ocean region increasingly focus on unique, sustainable experiences. For context, near-airport Maldives resorts are gaining an edge as high-end travelers seek convenience without compromising on exclusivity. Similarly, Maldives luxury resorts are diversifying their guest mix amid regional disruptions, highlighting the importance of innovative offerings like the Aqua Lounge.

The Aqua Lounge positions Sun Siyam Pasikudah as a pioneer in sustainable luxury on Sri Lanka's east coast, appealing to travel professionals seeking distinctive, eco-conscious experiences for their clients.
