Sunset Hospitality Group, in partnership with AICA Properties, has signed an agreement to develop METT Ksamil, a luxury hotel slated to open in 2029 on Albania's Ionian coast. The property will mark the METT brand's entry into Albania and grow its global portfolio to 12 hotels, underscoring the brand's rapid expansion in the lifestyle hospitality segment.

Located on the Albanian Riviera—often dubbed the Maldives of the Mediterranean—METT Ksamil will cater to leisure, wellness, and social travelers. The hotel will feature light-filled public spaces, a central green atrium, and panoramic views of the coastline. Dining options will include a beach club, a rooftop pool venue, and a specialty restaurant. Wellness and business facilities will span over 10,000 square feet, including a conference room and retail spaces.

Design and strategic growth

The hotel's design is entrusted to Studio Fuksas, an architecture firm known for its innovative approach. Jaime Buxó Clos, CEO of Sunset Hotels & Resorts, said, "METT Ksamil is an exciting step in our European growth story. Albania's Ionian coast is fast becoming one of the Mediterranean's most compelling destinations."

Antonio Gonzalez, Chairman and Group CEO of Sunset Hospitality Group, highlighted the strategic importance of the location: "Albania is exactly the kind of market where that growth belongs next."

This project is part of a broader expansion strategy by Sunset Hospitality, which now operates in 112 destinations across 27 countries. The development of METT Ksamil is expected to set a new benchmark for luxury hospitality on the Albanian Riviera, a region gaining prominence as a luxury travel destination.

For travel professionals, the entry of METT into Albania signals growing confidence in the country's tourism potential. The property will add to the region's upscale offerings, which have been attracting attention from international hotel groups and tour operators. As Albania continues to develop its tourism infrastructure, properties like METT Ksamil are likely to draw high-end travelers seeking new Mediterranean experiences.

Sunset Hospitality's expansion aligns with broader trends in luxury travel, where travelers increasingly seek authentic, design-led stays in emerging destinations. The company's ability to secure prime locations and partner with established developers positions it well for continued growth in Europe and beyond.
