Under the leadership of General Manager Dimitrios Kotsifakos, The Ritz-Carlton, Amman is redefining luxury hospitality in the Middle East by pairing Marriott International's global standards with deeply personalized, culturally rooted service. Since opening in 2022, the property has collected a Michelin Key and the Condé Nast Traveller Readers' Choice Award in 2025, signaling its rapid ascent among the region's elite hotels.

Kotsifakos, who took the helm in 2025, brings more than two decades of international hospitality experience to the role. He argues that physical grandeur alone no longer differentiates a five-star property. “In luxury hospitality, a beautiful hotel creates the expectation, but it is the service that defines how a guest remembers it,” he said. That philosophy is now embedded across every guest touchpoint, from pre-arrival communication to departure follow-ups.

Service as a competitive edge

The hotel has systematically revisited its guest journey, sharpening recognition and communication at each stage. The result: the Front Desk team now ranks among Marriott's top performers in upselling, a metric that reflects both revenue discipline and guest satisfaction. Kotsifakos emphasizes that anticipation is the core of luxury service. “Recognising the need before it becomes a request is where luxury becomes memorable,” he explained.

To make that possible, the property invests heavily in staff empowerment. Team members are trained not just in procedures but in the rationale behind them, enabling confident, on-the-spot decisions. “You cannot ask somebody to make confident decisions if they do not fully understand the product, the standards, the guest or the purpose behind what they are doing,” Kotsifakos said. This approach has fostered a culture where service is proactive rather than reactive.

Local roots, global standards

The Ritz-Carlton, Amman also positions itself as part of the city's social fabric. Its dining and lounge venues attract both international visitors and affluent Ammanis, blending Jordanian hospitality with the brand's signature polish. Kotsifakos sees this dual identity as the hotel's key strength. “We are not just a hotel in Amman; we are a destination that reflects the warmth and generosity of Jordan,” he noted.

The property's success comes at a time when luxury travel demand in the Middle East remains robust. For travel advisors and tour operators, the hotel's emphasis on personalized service and local immersion offers a compelling selling point for clients seeking authentic, high-touch experiences. The Michelin Key, awarded for outstanding cuisine, further strengthens its appeal for gastronomy-focused travelers.

Kotsifakos's leadership style is collaborative, and he regularly engages with staff at all levels to reinforce the service vision. He believes that consistency is achieved through shared purpose, not just checklists. “When every associate understands why we do what we do, the guest experience becomes seamless,” he said.

As Amman grows as a business and leisure hub, The Ritz-Carlton is well positioned to capture a share of the luxury travel from Gulf high-net-worth individuals and international executives. The hotel's meeting and event spaces also cater to the MICE segment, complementing its leisure offerings.

For hoteliers and operators, the Amman property offers a case study in how service excellence can drive commercial performance. Its upselling success, coupled with industry accolades, demonstrates that investment in staff training and guest personalization yields tangible returns. As Kotsifakos puts it, “Luxury is not about what you have; it's about how you make people feel.”

With its blend of global brand standards and local soul, The Ritz-Carlton, Amman is setting a benchmark for luxury hospitality in the region — one that competitors and partners alike will be watching closely.
