Travelodge Hotels Asia has expanded its Japanese footprint with the official opening of Travelodge Osaka Shinsaibashi, a 302-room property in the heart of Osaka. The hotel welcomed its first guests on 1 August 2026, followed by a grand opening celebration on 6 August, which also served as the launchpad for the brand's new mascot, Trevor.

Located near Nagahoribashi Station, the hotel places guests within walking distance of the Shinsaibashi-Suji Shopping Street and the Dotonbori entertainment district, two of Osaka's most frequented areas for shopping, dining, and nightlife. The property is positioned to cater to both leisure travellers and business visitors seeking a central base in the Kansai region.

Pinky Lam, Chief Operating Officer of Travelodge Hotels Asia, underscored the strategic importance of the opening. "Japan continues to be a key market for Travelodge Hotels Asia, and the opening of Travelodge Osaka Shinsaibashi represents an exciting new chapter in our growth journey," she said in a statement.

Mascot Trevor and promotional push

The introduction of Trevor, the brand's new mascot, is part of a broader effort to strengthen Travelodge's identity across Asia. Trevor is designed to embody the welcoming spirit that the chain aims to deliver at every property, from check-in to check-out.

To mark the opening, the hotel is running a "Stay Gold in Osaka" promotion, giving guests the chance to win prizes, including a gold bar. Additionally, travellers who book directly through the official website benefit from the Best Price Guarantee, and members of the Travelodge Cashback programme can earn up to 5% cashback on their stays.

The Osaka property joins a portfolio that currently includes 19 hotels across Asia, with headquarters in Singapore. Travelodge Hotels Asia has set an ambitious target of operating more than 50 properties by 2030, focusing on value-driven accommodations that combine comfort, convenience, and connection.

The opening comes amid a wave of new hotel launches across the region. In Thailand, Moxy Pattaya at Aquatique recently opened as the fourth hotel in that beachfront complex, while in Bali, Bali Mandira has introduced a new dining venue in Legian. Further afield, Hyatt Centric Sapporo has opened bookings for its December 2026 debut, signalling continued investor confidence in Japan's hospitality sector.

Travelodge's expansion strategy aligns with broader trends in the Asia-Pacific hotel market, where midscale and upper-midscale segments are seeing robust demand from both domestic and international travellers. The company's focus on prime urban locations, such as Shinsaibashi, is designed to capture high occupancy rates while maintaining competitive pricing.

For travel professionals, the new Osaka property offers an additional option for clients seeking a well-located, affordable stay in one of Japan's most dynamic cities. The hotel's proximity to public transport and major attractions makes it a practical choice for first-time visitors and repeat travellers alike.

Travelodge Hotels Asia continues to evaluate opportunities in other Japanese cities, as well as in Southeast Asia and beyond, as part of its 2030 growth plan. The company's ability to secure prime sites and deliver consistent service will be key to achieving its target of 50 properties.
