Trip.com has rolled out a suite of artificial intelligence tools designed to address common pain points travelers face once they arrive at their destination. The centerpiece is TripGenie, an AI-powered assistant that bundles several features aimed at reducing language barriers, navigating unfamiliar transport networks, and cutting down time spent in queues.

Key Features of TripGenie

TripGenie includes a TripPlanner module that generates customized itineraries based on user preferences, allowing travelers to offload the organizational burden. For dining, a Menu Assistant scans and translates restaurant menus, helping guests order local specialties with confidence. A Live Translation function supports real-time conversations, while an Image Recognition tool identifies landmarks and provides instant contextual information.

Beyond the AI assistant, Trip.com has enhanced its platform to let users pre-book attractions and package deals, reducing on-site waiting times. The company has also streamlined rail booking for high-speed networks in the UK, France, Japan, and other European and Asian markets, making it easier to combine air and rail travel in a single itinerary.

Round-the-clock customer support and an SOS feature provide an additional safety net, particularly valuable for solo travelers or those visiting less familiar regions. As travel expectations evolve, Trip.com's comprehensive ecosystem of tools reflects a shift towards more seamless and enjoyable travel experiences.

This launch comes as the travel industry increasingly turns to AI to solve operational and customer experience challenges. For example, SITA's recent report highlighted how digital tools have cut mishandled bags by 23% in 2025, though costs remain high. Similarly, Chaty.ai's recent funding round underscores growing investment in AI-powered booking tools for tour operators.

For travel professionals, TripGenie represents a direct response to the friction points that often erode customer satisfaction. By embedding AI into the post-booking journey, Trip.com aims to differentiate its platform in a competitive OTA market where user experience is a key battleground. The tool's emphasis on real-time translation and local navigation also aligns with broader trends in community-led heritage protection, as it encourages deeper cultural engagement.

Industry observers note that while many OTAs focus on pre-trip planning and booking, Trip.com's move addresses the often-overlooked on-site experience. This could prove particularly valuable for first-time visitors to complex destinations like Tokyo or Paris, where language and logistics can overwhelm even seasoned travelers.

The company has not disclosed specific adoption metrics for TripGenie, but the tool is now live across Trip.com's global platforms. As AI continues to reshape travel technology, Trip.com's investment in practical, on-the-ground assistance may set a new standard for what travelers expect from their booking provider.
