Umana Bali, part of Hilton's LXR Hotels & Resorts portfolio, has outlined a series of cultural experiences running from July through October 2026. Located in the Ungasan enclave on Bali's southern coast, the resort aims to offer guests access to local traditions while maintaining the privacy of its villa accommodations.

Program highlights and timing

The centerpiece is the Bali Kite Festival, traditionally held in September. Hand-crafted kites, some measuring several meters across, are flown along the coastline in Ungasan and Sanur. The event has deep spiritual roots — kites are believed to carry messages to the gods — and draws both local participants and international visitors.

August brings a concentration of temple anniversaries, known locally as odalan. Villages across Bali mark these with music, dance, and offerings. Full moon ceremonies, called Purnama, illuminate temples such as Melasti and Batu Pageh. Another key date is Tumpek Krulut, a day dedicated to love and harmony. On 17 August, Indonesian Independence Day is celebrated with parades and traditional games, offering a window into national pride.

Beyond the resort, guests can visit Uluwatu Temple at sunset to watch the Kecak fire dance, a performance set against the Indian Ocean. Nearby attractions include Melasti Beach and the Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park.

Luxury positioning and executive comment

Nicolas Kassab, General Manager of Umana Bali, said: "At Umana Bali, authentic luxury means opening the door to Bali's living culture and the Balinese way of life." The resort's private pool villas offer ocean views and personalized service, designed to complement the cultural itinerary.

The announcement aligns with broader trends in luxury hospitality, where properties increasingly emphasize local immersion. Similar approaches have been adopted by other brands; for instance, Marriott has highlighted cultural immersion in its Caribbean and Latin American properties. Meanwhile, the wider cultural tourism sector faces challenges from overcrowding at heritage sites, as recent reports have noted.

Umana Bali's program runs from July to October 2026. Travel professionals can find further details on the resort's website.
