Indian travelers are redefining their holiday preferences, with immersive and adventure-led experiences now dominating bookings, according to fresh data from Agoda covering January to June 2026. The digital travel platform's analysis of over 300,000 activities reveals a clear pivot from conventional sightseeing toward entertainment and cultural discovery, particularly in short-haul Southeast Asian destinations.

Theme parks and island tours emerged as the most-booked categories, with Universal Studios Singapore, Pattaya Coral Island Tour in Thailand, and VinWonders Phu Quoc in Vietnam leading the rankings. This trend underscores the appeal of destinations known for strong connectivity, diverse attractions, and strong value-for-money propositions—key factors for family holidays and group getaways.

Theme Parks Take Center Stage

Across Asia, theme parks have become primary travel motivators rather than add-on activities. Hong Kong Disneyland topped the list in Asia, while Tokyo Disney Resort and Lotte World were the favorites in Japan and South Korea, respectively. This shift signals that entertainment hubs are now driving itinerary planning for Indian travelers.

Beyond theme parks, nature-led experiences are gaining traction. In Vietnam, Sun World Fansipan Legend in Sapa—which offers a cable car journey to Indochina's highest peak—was the most-booked activity. Marine and wildlife attractions like Aquaria KLCC in Malaysia and Jakarta Aquarium Safari in Indonesia also saw high demand, reflecting a broader appetite for experiential travel.

Gaurav Malik, Country Director for India Subcontinent and Indian Ocean Islands at Agoda, commented: “Travel today is increasingly about creating meaningful memories, and Indian travellers are embracing destinations that offer a blend of entertainment, discovery, and relaxation.”

The data aligns with broader industry trends. Agoda's earlier research on return visitors to Singapore highlighted the growing micro-trip phenomenon, while the platform's recent mobile app upgrades—including real-time flight alerts and AI-powered hotel browsing—further support the shift toward spontaneous, experience-led travel.

For travel professionals, the implications are clear: Indian outbound demand is increasingly experience-driven, with short-haul Southeast Asian destinations well-positioned to capture this segment. Hoteliers, tour operators, and destination marketers should consider bundling theme park tickets, island tours, and nature excursions into curated packages to meet evolving traveler expectations.

Agoda's data, collected from bookings made between 1 January and 15 June 2026, reflects a sustained trend toward experiential travel. The platform now offers over 300,000 activities globally, providing a robust dataset for understanding shifting consumer behavior.
