The America Hotel Owners Charitable Association (AHOCA) has expanded beyond the United States with the launch of AHOCA Asia, its first regional chapter, headquartered in Hong Kong. The move underscores the city's enduring appeal as a gateway for hospitality investment and cross-border collaboration between Eastern and Western markets.
The launch took place on 26 May 2026 at the InterContinental Grand Stanford Hong Kong, combining the inaugural AHOCA Asia Hospitality Leadership Conference with a gala dinner. The event drew a cross-section of industry leaders, including hotel owners, investors, and technology providers, reflecting the growing appetite for structured dialogue between Asia and the Americas.
Bridging East and West
AHOCA Asia aims to create a collaborative ecosystem for stakeholders across the hospitality value chain. Abel Zhao, President of AHOCA Asia and CEO of CSTS Enterprises, framed the initiative as a platform for strategic growth. "AHOCA Asia is built on a vision to connect people, ideas, and opportunities across markets," Zhao said. "Our focus is on facilitating cross-border dialogue and unlocking investment pathways that benefit the entire industry."
The conference programme included keynote addresses from Professor Qu Xiao of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University's School of Hotel and Tourism Management, and Sindy Wong from Invest Hong Kong. A leadership panel moderated by Kenneth TK Law of CSTS Enterprises explored operational excellence and international expansion strategies for hospitality enterprises.
John Lam, Chairman of AHOCA, highlighted the significance of the Hong Kong launch. "By bridging East and West, we are creating new pathways for growth, innovation, and long-term value," Lam stated. "Hong Kong's unique position as a financial and travel hub makes it the natural home for our first regional chapter."
The chapter's establishment aligns with broader trends in the Asia Pacific hospitality sector, where wellness tourism reshapes Asia Pacific hospitality and travel strategies, and hotel groups are increasingly seeking cross-border partnerships to tap into new markets.
Strategic Implications for Travel Professionals
For hoteliers and investors, AHOCA Asia offers a structured platform for networking and deal-making across key Asian markets. The chapter plans to host regular forums and cross-border initiatives, deepening connections between stakeholders in Hong Kong, mainland China, Southeast Asia, and beyond. This could prove particularly valuable for mid-market and luxury hotel groups looking to expand their footprint in the region.
Travel agents and tour operators may benefit from the increased flow of investment and innovation in hospitality products, as new properties and experiences emerge from these collaborations. The initiative also complements recent moves by other industry players, such as Novotel Manila Araneta City's family-focused campaign, which targets modern family travel in the region.
Technology vendors should note the emphasis on innovation within AHOCA Asia's agenda. The chapter's focus on cross-border dialogue could accelerate the adoption of digital tools and platforms that streamline operations across different regulatory environments. For example, PHAL's launch of agentic AI advisory for hospitality signals the growing role of artificial intelligence in hotel management, a trend that AHOCA Asia is likely to explore.
The Hong Kong base also positions AHOCA Asia to leverage the city's strong connectivity, including recent airline developments such as Starlux Airlines' planned Sydney–Taipei–Auckland service, which will enhance travel links across the region.
As AHOCA Asia expands its activities, travel professionals across aviation, hospitality, and tourism should monitor its initiatives for potential partnership opportunities and market intelligence. The chapter's success could serve as a model for other industry associations seeking to bridge regional divides in an increasingly interconnected global travel landscape.
