Air India Express has expanded its domestic footprint with the launch of a daily nonstop service connecting Pune (PNQ) and Amritsar (ATQ), effective June 15. The new route directly links Maharashtra's cultural and IT hub with Punjab's spiritual capital, offering a timed schedule tailored for both leisure and business passengers.

Schedule and Service Details

The outbound flight departs Pune at 01:20 hrs and arrives in Amritsar at 04:10 hrs. The return leg leaves Amritsar at 05:00 hrs, touching down in Pune at 07:50 hrs. Tickets are available via the airline's website, mobile app, and major global distribution systems including Amadeus, Sabre, and Travelport. Passengers can add Gourmair hot meal options and Xpress Ahead priority services for an enhanced experience.

Amritsar, home to the Golden Temple and Jallianwala Bagh, draws millions of pilgrims and tourists annually. Pune, a major education, IT, and manufacturing center, complements this with attractions such as Shaniwar Wada and Aga Khan Palace. The route also supports student travel between Punjab's educational institutions and Pune's universities.

Network Impact

With this addition, Air India Express now operates 105 weekly flights from Pune to 12 destinations, including international routes such as Abu Dhabi. From Amritsar, the carrier runs 24 weekly flights to cities including Delhi, Dubai, and Sharjah. The airline's recent brand campaign, 'Xpress Wali Baat Hai', featuring actor Pankaj Tripathi, underscores its focus on affordable comfort and hospitality.

Industry observers note that the Pune–Amritsar link fills a gap in direct connectivity between western India and the Punjab region, previously served mainly by connecting flights via Delhi or Mumbai. The early-morning timing allows same-day business trips and convenient onward connections to international destinations in the Gulf.

Air India Express, the low-cost subsidiary of Air India, continues to expand its domestic network alongside parent company initiatives such as the recent introduction of basic economy fares on domestic routes. The airline's strategy targets both price-sensitive leisure travelers and cost-conscious corporate clients.
