Akasa Air has officially begun commercial services from Noida International Airport, marking a key milestone for the carrier and the region. The inaugural flight, operating on 16 June 2026, departed Navi Mumbai International Airport at 0725 hrs and arrived at Noida at 0935 hrs, positioning Akasa Air among the first airlines to offer scheduled flights from the newly opened airport in the National Capital Region (NCR).
Strategic Expansion in Northern India
The move underscores Akasa Air’s ambition to strengthen its domestic network, particularly in the densely populated NCR catchment area. Anand Srinivasan, co-founder and chief commercial officer of Akasa Air, described the launch as “an important milestone in Akasa Air’s growth journey,” noting that the airport will improve connectivity for travellers across NCR and neighbouring states. The airline’s decision to operate from Noida International Airport aligns with its broader strategy of tapping into underserved and high-growth markets across India.
Christoph Schnellmann, vice chairman of Noida International Airport, welcomed Akasa Air’s presence, stating that the partnership will “expand travel opportunities and provide greater choice for passengers.” He emphasised the airport’s potential to drive connectivity, economic growth, and development across Uttar Pradesh and Northern India. The collaboration is expected to benefit both leisure and business travellers, particularly those in the western NCR corridor.
Akasa Air’s entry into Noida International Airport also includes plans to establish a state-of-the-art Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at the airport. This investment signals the airline’s long-term commitment to the hub and its focus on operational efficiency and safety. The MRO unit will support the carrier’s growing fleet of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and enhance its ability to maintain high dispatch reliability.
The airline’s network expansion comes amid broader developments in Indian aviation, including the rapid growth of secondary airports and increased competition among low-cost carriers. Akasa Air, which launched operations in August 2022, has positioned itself as a value-driven carrier with a focus on customer experience and operational punctuality. The Noida route adds to its existing domestic network, which includes key metros and tier-2 cities.
For travel professionals, the new service offers an alternative gateway to the NCR, potentially easing congestion at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. The Noida International Airport, located in Jewar, is designed to handle up to 12 million passengers annually in its first phase, with plans for further expansion. Industry observers note that the airline’s move mirrors similar strategies by carriers such as IndiGo and SpiceJet, which have also expanded into secondary airports to capture demand. The Noida–Navi Mumbai route, in particular, serves a growing business corridor between the financial capital and the NCR.
