BANGKOK — A new collaboration between Assumption University of Thailand and Walt Disney World Resort opens a direct internship pipeline for students, marking a significant step in bridging academic training with global tourism operations. The agreement, signed on 23 July 2026, involves the university's Theodore Maria School of Arts and London House, the official representative of Disney International Programs.
Under the memorandum of understanding, eligible students pursuing languages and international business can undertake internships at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, United States. This marks the first time in 18 years that Disney has authorized its official representative to sign such an agreement with an educational institution, underscoring the strategic nature of the partnership.
Dr Chayada Thanavisuth, Dean of the Theodore Maria School of Arts, and Ms Rochanaporn Trisilp, Managing Director of London House, formalized the deal. For students, the program offers more than a prestigious résumé line; it provides immersion in daily operations, service standards, and a multicultural work environment at one of the world's most iconic tourism and entertainment destinations.
Participants are expected to strengthen their professional English, intercultural communication, international business knowledge, and confidence in serving guests and colleagues from diverse backgrounds. This aligns with growing demand from tourism and hospitality employers for graduates who combine technical skills with cultural awareness and practical international experience.
During the signing ceremony, London House presented a THB 50,000 sponsorship fund to the School of Arts to support students in the program. The initiative also supports Thailand's tourism sector by preparing young professionals to understand global service delivery before bringing that expertise back to local classrooms, workplaces, and destinations.
Global tourism talent pipeline
Following the ceremony, Assumption University students attended a detailed briefing covering program eligibility, the application process, available roles at Walt Disney World Resort, and strategies for Disney interviews. The partnership reflects a broader trend in the travel industry, where hands-on experience at major attractions is increasingly valued. For context, similar initiatives are emerging across the region, such as Bangkok hosting the World Travel & Culture Expo 2026, which aims to boost ASEAN tourism growth.
The internship pathway also complements other developments in the hospitality sector, including IHG opening its first Kimpton in Indonesia, signaling a growing emphasis on experiential travel and talent development. For travel professionals—from airline executives to hoteliers and tour operators—this partnership highlights the importance of cultivating a workforce that can navigate multicultural environments and deliver world-class service.
As Thailand continues to position itself as a hub for tourism education and talent, programs like this one are likely to influence how the industry prepares its next generation of leaders. The agreement also resonates with the luxury travel segment, where service excellence is paramount, similar to the approach seen in Hotel Cipriani's renewed luxury partnership with Dior in Venice.
For agents and tour operators, the development underscores the value of partnerships that provide real-world training, ensuring that graduates are ready to meet the demands of an increasingly globalized travel market. The program is expected to run annually, with the first cohort of students likely to begin internships in 2027.
