IHG Hotels & Resorts is expanding its luxury lifestyle footprint in Southeast Asia with the upcoming debut of Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud, the brand's first property in Indonesia. Located in the cultural heart of Ubud, the hotel is set to open later this year, offering 101 accommodations that range from essential rooms to pool suites and private pool villas.
The property is positioned within walking distance of Ubud Art Market and Ubud Palace, two of Bali's most visited landmarks. The design, led by Denton Corker Marshall, draws inspiration from Balinese ceremonial processions, blending calm and energy. The name "Suntaya" is derived from Sanskrit, meaning stillness and vitality, reflecting the hotel's intended balance.
Signature Kimpton amenities and dining
Guests will have access to Kimpton's signature programs, including the "Forgot It, We've Got It!" amenity service, daily coffee and pastries through Kimpton Kickstart, and evening social gatherings at Kimpton Social. The hotel's culinary lineup includes five dining venues, headlined by Imamura Ubud, an omakase experience led by Michelin-starred Chef Hirofumi Imamura.
Wellness offerings include a fitness studio and Sakshi Spa, which incorporates traditional Balinese healing practices. General Manager Austin Jones, who has extensive experience with the Kimpton brand, said in a statement: "We want this hotel to become a vibrant gathering place where guests and locals alike can experience Bali in a way that feels effortless, personal, and unscripted."
The opening comes as Indonesia continues to strengthen its position as a key destination for luxury travel and MICE events. The country has been ramping up MICE infrastructure to compete with other Southeast Asian hubs, and Ubud's cultural appeal makes it a natural fit for high-end meetings and incentive groups.
Kimpton's entry into Indonesia follows the brand's established presence in other Asian markets, including Thailand, where the Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok has been operating. The Ubud property is expected to attract both leisure travelers and corporate clients seeking a luxury retreat with local authenticity.
For travel professionals, the hotel represents a new option for clients looking for boutique-style luxury in Bali, a market that has seen growing demand for experiential stays. The inclusion of a Michelin-starred chef and a wellness spa aligns with broader trends in luxury travel, where personalized, health-focused experiences are increasingly prioritized.
IHG's move also signals confidence in Indonesia's tourism recovery and its potential for high-end hospitality. With China recently surging to the top source market for Indonesia inbound travel, the timing could be strategic for capturing demand from Asian luxury travelers.
The property is expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2026, with reservations opening in the coming months.
