Celebrity River Cruises is expanding its European offerings with a new program of pre- and post-cruise stays in four key cities: Prague, Budapest, Amsterdam, and Lausanne. The initiative, now open for bookings through 2026 and 2027, is designed to give travellers a more immersive start or finish to their river voyage.
Rather than a simple hotel add-on, each stay runs for two or three nights and includes centrally located high-end accommodation, daily breakfast, ship transfers, and one Discovery Collection tour per day from Celebrity’s shore excursion programme. Guests also have a balance of guided discovery and free time, with optional premium experiences available for those seeking deeper engagement.
“This structure gives travellers the best of both worlds,” said a Celebrity Cruises spokesperson. “You get expert-led access to the destination, but you still have room to wander, linger, and make the trip your own.”
City-Specific Experiences
The stays are tailored to reflect each city’s character. In Amsterdam, a local contemporary artist guides guests through the street art scene in creative districts, ending with a hands-on art-making session. In Prague, travellers can follow the trail of alchemists and ancient scholars through gothic spires and hidden symbols, with access to medieval walls, secret bunkers, and Cold War shelters. A food and drink option focuses on Czech beer heritage and traditional taverns.
Budapest and Lausanne offerings are similarly curated, though specific details were not disclosed in the initial announcement. The programme is available across all Celebrity River Cruises itineraries that embark or disembark in these cities.
This move aligns with broader industry trends toward deeper, more meaningful travel experiences. As noted in Fluxury Travel Gains Traction as Overtourism Backlash Drives Demand for Deeper Experiences, travellers increasingly seek immersion over superficial sightseeing. Celebrity’s approach removes the friction of planning separate hotel, transfer, and tour logistics, offering a polished yet flexible package.
The new stays also complement the growing river cruise sector in Europe. With competitors like AmaWaterways launching the continent’s largest river ship, AmaRudi, in 2027 (see AmaWaterways Reveals AmaRudi: Europe's Largest River Cruise Ship Set for 2027), Celebrity is differentiating through destination depth rather than vessel size.
For travel agents and tour operators, the programme offers a ready-made upsell that enhances the overall journey. “Instead of treating the cruise as the main event and the city as a quick prelude, this gives the destination more weight and more character,” the spokesperson added.
Bookings are now open via Celebrity Cruises’ website and through trade partners. The line expects strong demand from North American and European markets, particularly among luxury travellers seeking curated, hassle-free experiences.
