Club Med is deepening its footprint in Japan's northern island of Hokkaido with a four-resort portfolio designed to capture distinct segments of the winter travel market. The properties — Club Med Tomamu, Club Med Sahoro, Club Med Kiroro Grand, and Club Med Kiroro Peak — each offer a tailored interpretation of the season, ranging from adrenaline-fueled skiing to cultural immersion and family-oriented programming.

Hokkaido has long been a magnet for powder-hound skiers, but the region's appeal now extends well beyond the slopes. Dramatic mountain scenery, a robust regional food scene, and deep-rooted cultural traditions are increasingly central to the destination's draw. Olivier Monceau, General Manager for Club Med Singapore and Malaysia, frames this shift in terms of evolving traveler expectations: "Premium travel today is increasingly defined by experiences that create lasting memories."

All-inclusive model gains traction in Japan

Club Med's all-inclusive proposition — bundling accommodation, ski passes, lessons, dining, and activities into a single price — continues to resonate with travelers seeking friction-free holidays. The model has translated into strong demand and industry recognition. Club Med Tomamu was ranked No. 1 among Top Hotels in Japan in Tripadvisor's 2025 Travellers' Choice rankings, a signal of the brand's competitive position in the market.

Each resort in the Hokkaido cluster has been positioned to appeal to a specific traveler profile:

  • Club Med Tomamu — A vibrant, activity-rich property featuring the Ice Village and Mina Mina Beach, a wave pool complex that operates year-round.
  • Club Med Sahoro — A quieter, culturally immersive option that emphasizes local traditions and a more intimate atmosphere.
  • Club Med Kiroro Grand — A family-focused retreat with extensive facilities, including dedicated kids' clubs and a wide range of dining options.
  • Club Med Kiroro Peak — An adults-only escape offering a more refined, tranquil experience with access to the same Kiroro ski terrain.

The differentiation is deliberate. By segmenting the portfolio, Club Med can cater to honeymooners, multi-generational families, and seasoned skiers without diluting the brand's core promise of a seamless, all-inclusive winter holiday.

Sustainability is also woven into the offering. All four Hokkaido resorts are Green Globe certified, underscoring Club Med's commitment to responsible tourism in a region where environmental stewardship is increasingly a competitive differentiator.

For travel advisors and tour operators, the expanded Hokkaido lineup provides a versatile product set. The resorts can be packaged for a range of client types, from corporate incentive groups seeking the adults-only Kiroro Peak to families looking for the comprehensive amenities at Kiroro Grand. The all-inclusive structure also simplifies quoting and booking, a practical advantage in a market where clients are increasingly value-conscious.

Club Med's Hokkaido expansion comes at a time when winter travel demand in Asia is robust. The region's proximity to major source markets like China, South Korea, and Southeast Asia, combined with its reputation for reliable snow, makes it a strategic hub for the brand's Asia-Pacific growth. As travelers increasingly prioritize experiences over material goods, Club Med's curated winter offerings are well positioned to capture a share of that spending.
