Crystal has formally activated its contract with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri for a third next-generation ocean ship, with delivery slated for May 2034. The move follows an option exercised in 2024 and underscores the luxury cruise line's long-term fleet expansion under A&K Travel Group.
The new vessel will join Crystal Grace, set to debut in 2028, and her sister ship arriving in 2031. All three ships are part of a design series that aims to blend contemporary luxury with the brand's heritage of personalised service.
Specifications and design
The 62,000-gross-tonne ship will accommodate 650 guests, offering a high crew-to-guest ratio that Crystal says ensures attentive, tailored service. Designed by international architectural firms, the vessel will feature all-veranda suites, including an expansive Owner's Suite and new categories specifically tailored for solo travellers.
This focus on solo accommodations reflects a broader industry trend toward catering to independent luxury travellers, a segment that has grown steadily in recent years.
Executive perspectives
Manfredi Lefebvre d’Ovidio, Executive Chairman of A&K Travel Group, expressed confidence in the brand's trajectory: “This third ship reflects our long-term commitment to the brand and to our guests.”
Cristina Levis, CEO of A&K Travel Group, highlighted strong demand for Crystal Grace, noting the brand's legacy and evolution for new luxury travellers. “The response to Crystal Grace has been exceptional,” she said, pointing to the opening of bookings for the 2028 season as evidence of robust interest.
Luigi Matarazzo, General Manager of Fincantieri's Merchant Ships Division, emphasised the strength of the partnership: “The effectiveness of the contract... reflects our shared commitment to innovation, craftsmanship and excellence.”
Momentum and market context
The announcement follows the successful steel-cutting ceremony for Crystal Grace and the launch of its 2028 itineraries. Crystal has also been expanding its wellness offerings, with four wellness at sea retreats planned for 2027 aboard Serenity and Symphony.
The newbuild programme positions Crystal to compete with other luxury lines that are also investing in next-generation tonnage. For travel advisors, the expanded fleet means more inventory and new itineraries to sell, particularly in the premium ocean segment.
As Crystal prepares to welcome its first new ship in nearly two decades, the brand is clearly betting on a future of growth. With three vessels on order, the company is signalling confidence in the long-term demand for luxury cruising.
