DUCO Travel Summit, the destination-led events platform known for its high-end travel gatherings across Southern Europe, has entered a new chapter following its acquisition by an entrepreneurial investment fund. The fund is spearheaded by Rebeca Pinheiro, who brings a blend of international business experience and an academic background from MIT to her new role as President and Partner.
Founder Carolina Perez, who launched DUCO in 2016, will stay on as a shareholder and strategic board adviser, ensuring continuity in the company's vision and operations. Perez expressed strong confidence in Pinheiro's leadership, stating, “I feel incredibly fortunate to have found a leader who shares this vision, has earned my complete confidence, and is deeply committed to preserving DUCO's identity.”
The acquisition marks a strategic shift for the company, which has built a reputation for curating immersive travel experiences in Italy, France, Spain, and Portugal. The DUCO team, known for its expertise in organizing premium travel events, will remain intact, continuing to manage day-to-day operations and maintain relationships with partners across the industry.
Expansion plans and new markets
Under Pinheiro's leadership, DUCO is set to expand its footprint, with a debut event planned for London in 2027, marking its entry into the UK and Irish markets. Pinheiro emphasized the company's commitment to preserving its unique qualities while scaling into new territories. “Our goal is to bring the same commitment to relationships and destination immersion to every new market we enter,” she said.
This expansion comes at a time when the MICE sector is seeing renewed interest in destination-led events, as travel professionals seek more meaningful and immersive experiences. DUCO's model, which focuses on connecting industry leaders through carefully curated gatherings, aligns with this trend.
The company's events have become a fixture for travel professionals, offering a platform for networking and business development in some of Europe's most sought-after destinations. With the new investment, DUCO aims to strengthen its position and explore additional markets beyond its current base.
Pinheiro's background includes extensive work in international business, and her academic credentials from MIT add a strategic dimension to her operational oversight. Her appointment signals a focus on growth while maintaining the boutique feel that has defined DUCO's events.
Industry observers will be watching how DUCO navigates its expansion, particularly in the competitive UK events landscape. The London event in 2027 will be a key test of the company's ability to replicate its Southern European success in a new market.
For travel professionals, the acquisition and expansion plans underscore the ongoing evolution of the events sector, where personal connections and destination immersion remain central to value creation. As DUCO moves forward, its ability to balance growth with its core identity will be crucial.
