Ferrari World Yas Island in Abu Dhabi is gearing up for the third edition of its Ladies Run, scheduled for 30 August to mark Emirati Women's Day. The event, which has become a staple in the park's community calendar, invites women of all fitness levels to take part in a morning of exercise and camaraderie beneath the iconic Red Roof.
Participants can select from three distances: a 2.5km single lap designed for beginners, a 5km two-lap route for those with some running experience, and a challenging 10km four-lap course for seasoned athletes. The race will start and finish inside Ferrari World, winding through Yas Mall and the Italian Village, all within a fully air-conditioned environment—a welcome feature given the late-August heat in the UAE capital.
Check-in opens at 6:00am, with the 10km race beginning at 7:00am, followed by the 5km at 7:03am, and the 2.5km at 7:08am. A podium presentation is scheduled for 8:30am to honour the top finishers and celebrate all participants.
Community engagement and destination appeal
Ferrari World Yas Island, known primarily for its high-thrill rides and attractions, has been expanding its role as a venue for community-focused events. The Ladies Run is part of a broader strategy to position the park as a multi-purpose destination that appeals to both tourists and local residents. This aligns with Abu Dhabi's tourism vision, which emphasizes year-round events and experiences beyond traditional theme park offerings.
The event also taps into the growing trend of fitness tourism, where travellers combine leisure with active pursuits. For hoteliers and tour operators in the UAE capital, such events provide additional reasons for visitors to extend their stays, particularly during the summer months when indoor activities are at a premium.
Emirati Women's Day, celebrated annually on 28 August, honours the achievements of women in the UAE. Ferrari World's decision to host the run on 30 August extends the celebration into the weekend, offering a practical way for women to mark the occasion. The event's inclusive format—from casual walkers to competitive runners—reflects a broader industry push towards wellness and community engagement.
For travel professionals, the Ladies Run underscores the value of destination marketing that goes beyond traditional attractions. As US tourism shifts to trade strategy amid visa hurdles, destinations like Abu Dhabi are leveraging unique events to attract niche audiences. Similarly, the run complements initiatives like flydubai's careers open day, which drew 500 Emiratis, highlighting the emirate's focus on local engagement.
Ferrari World's parent company, Miral, has been proactive in developing Yas Island as a leisure and entertainment hub. The park's air-conditioned venue is a key selling point, allowing events to proceed comfortably regardless of outdoor temperatures. This infrastructure advantage is likely to appeal to MICE planners and event organisers seeking reliable, climate-controlled spaces in the Gulf region.
The Ladies Run also dovetails with broader trends in the hospitality sector, where wellness offerings are increasingly important. As noted in a recent report on executive gender gaps in hospitality, women remain underrepresented in leadership, but events like this help foster community and encourage female participation in sports and recreation.
For travel agents and tour operators, the run presents an opportunity to package Yas Island experiences with hotel stays and other activities. The event's timing, just before the start of the school year, could appeal to families and groups looking for a final summer outing. With the UAE's tourism sector rebounding strongly, such community-driven events are likely to play an increasingly important role in attracting both domestic and international visitors.
Ferrari World has not yet announced whether the Ladies Run will become a permanent fixture, but the event's growing popularity suggests it may well return in future years. For now, the park is focused on delivering a memorable experience for participants, with the Red Roof serving as a fitting backdrop for a celebration of Emirati women's achievements.
