flydubai hosted its inaugural UAE National Careers Open Day at its Dubai Campus, attracting more than 500 Emirati nationals from all seven emirates. The event underscored the carrier's commitment to developing local talent as it prepares for a period of significant fleet expansion.

The open day gave students, graduates, and professionals the chance to meet with flydubai's recruitment and talent development teams. Participants could explore a range of career tracks, including the Engineering Apprentice Programme, the Flight Dispatcher Programme, and pilot pathways such as the Ab Initio and Second Officer programmes. The airline also highlighted its UAE National Graduate Programmes and positions across operational and corporate functions.

Strong national interest in aviation careers

Nasser Binkherbash, Senior Vice President of Human Resources at flydubai, said the turnout demonstrated the enthusiasm of Emirati talent. "Welcoming more than 500 Emiratis from all seven emirates who are interested in exploring a career with flydubai demonstrates the enthusiasm and ambition of our national talent," he said.

The event comes as flydubai continues to expand its network and fleet. The airline currently operates a fleet of 97 Boeing 737 aircraft, with more than 300 additional aircraft on order. This growth is expected to create numerous job opportunities across the business, from flight operations to engineering and corporate roles.

flydubai's expansion is not limited to the Gulf. The carrier has recently added capacity on routes to Italy, including more flights to Naples and Milan-Bergamo, and will restore its Dubai-Budapest link with daily service from October. These network additions will require additional pilots, cabin crew, engineers, and support staff.

The careers open day is part of a broader initiative to nurture Emirati talent through specialised training, mentorship, and long-term career development. flydubai aims to ensure that UAE nationals play a pivotal role in the future of the country's aviation industry, aligning with national workforce agendas.

Industry observers note that such recruitment drives are becoming increasingly important as Gulf carriers compete for skilled personnel. The region's aviation sector is projected to grow steadily, and airlines are investing in local pipelines to reduce reliance on expatriate labour.

flydubai's focus on national talent development mirrors efforts by other carriers in the region, such as Air Astana's international push, which has also emphasised local hiring. The airline's open day provided a platform for candidates to learn about the company's culture, values, and growth prospects.

For travel industry professionals, the event signals flydubai's long-term commitment to building a sustainable workforce. As the airline expands its route network and fleet, its ability to attract and retain skilled Emirati staff will be critical to maintaining operational excellence.

The success of the open day also highlights the growing appeal of aviation careers among UAE nationals. With competitive salaries, training opportunities, and clear progression paths, the sector is becoming an attractive option for young Emiratis seeking dynamic careers.

flydubai plans to continue its recruitment efforts, with additional events and programmes expected in the coming months. The airline's investment in national talent is set to pay dividends as it navigates the next phase of growth.
