Hawaiian Airlines has taken a visible step in its integration into the oneworld alliance with the unveiling of a dedicated livery on an Airbus A330. The design, presented on 30 June at the Charles I Elliott Maintenance and Cargo Facility in Honolulu, prominently features the Hawaiian-language phrase "Aloha a puni ka honua" — translated as "Aloha all around the world."

The livery retains the airline's signature Pualani (flower lei) motif on the tail and a maile lei wrapping around the fuselage, blending alliance branding with Hawaiian cultural iconography. Alisa Onishi, Managing Director of Hawaiʻi marketing for Hawaiian Airlines, stated: "Language is essential to preserving Hawaiʻi's culture. By placing ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi on our aircraft, we honour our heritage and carry the voice of Hawaiʻi everywhere we fly."

Cultural Commitment and Community Investment

During the unveiling event, Hawaiian Airlines donated $10,000 each to ʻIolani Palace and the Polynesian Voyaging Society, reinforcing its long-standing support for local cultural preservation. This marks the carrier's first membership in a major global airline alliance, a strategic move that enhances connectivity for both leisure and business travellers to and from the Hawaiian Islands.

The new livery is part of a broader effort to make Hawaii more accessible to international travellers while maintaining the carrier's distinct hospitality. The airline's entry into oneworld allows passengers on the Atmos Rewards loyalty programme — a collaboration between Hawaiian and Alaska Airlines — to earn and redeem points across the alliance's network of nearly 1,000 destinations. Benefits include access to premium lounges, extra baggage allowance, and priority services.

Industry observers note that the move strengthens Hawaiian Airlines' competitive position against other transpacific carriers. The carrier operates key routes such as Honolulu–Tokyo Narita, Honolulu–Seoul Incheon, and Honolulu–Sydney, and the alliance integration could drive additional feed from oneworld partners like American Airlines, British Airways, and Cathay Pacific.

For travel professionals, the expanded loyalty programme and alliance benefits represent a tangible improvement in product offerings. Agents and tour operators can now bundle Hawaiian itineraries with oneworld partner flights, offering clients a seamless experience from origin to destination. The livery itself serves as a mobile billboard for the alliance, visible at airports across the Pacific and beyond.

This development follows broader trends in the aviation industry, including tightened cabin baggage rules and shifts in hub dynamics, such as Asiana Airlines' planned exit from Star Alliance. Hawaiian's oneworld entry adds another layer to the evolving alliance landscape in the Asia-Pacific region.

The aircraft will enter service on the carrier's transpacific network, with the first flights expected to operate between Honolulu and Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle. Hawaiian Airlines continues to operate a fleet of Airbus A330s and A321neos, with the livery applied to additional aircraft over time.
