The Langham, Custom House, Bangkok has opened reservations for stays beginning December 20, 2025, marking the latest addition to Langham Hospitality Group's portfolio in Thailand's capital. The 75-key property, set along the Chao Phraya River in the Bang Rak district, is positioned as a tranquil urban retreat that balances understated luxury with its historic riverside setting.

Langham Hospitality Group chief executive Bob van den Oord said: “For generations, Custom House served as Thailand’s gateway to the world, and we are proud to see it preparing to welcome the world again as part of The Langham, Custom House, Bangkok. The hotel’s guestrooms and suites, together with its world-class amenities, will offer an intimate and highly considered expression of luxury that reflects both the character of its remarkable site and The Langham’s distinctive approach to hospitality.”

Heritage restoration and design

The hotel centres on the restored Custom House building, originally established in 1888 under King Rama V and once regarded as the country's gateway to international trade. The meticulous restoration preserves the landmark's legacy while giving it renewed purpose. The 60 guestrooms and 15 suites are housed in a contemporary curvilinear structure designed by renowned Thai architect Smith Obayawat, founder and principal of OBA. The design echoes the movement of the river and serves as a respectful counterpart to the heritage icon—Custom House as “the grandfather” and the new addition as “the grandson”.

Interiors blend residential elegance with modern comfort, drawing on natural textures, soft lighting, and subtle Siamese influences. Sculptural bathtubs in brushed metal reference precious materials and symbols of prestige, including coinage and gilded finishes, evoking the elegance of King Rama V's reign. Geometric etching nods to rhombus mosaic patterns found in Thai temples, while bespoke decorative lighting reinterprets royal emblems and ceremonial weaponry. Suites further develop these themes to convey the grandeur associated with Thai nobility.

The new building also houses a Chuan Spa and a state-of-the-art fitness centre featuring Technogym's luxury Sandstone collection—the first installation of its kind in Asia.

Public spaces and local connections

The restored Custom House and adjoining heritage structures are designated as public spaces, intended to serve as vibrant gathering places for guests and visitors. A collection of dining, drinking, and lifestyle venues will be revealed in due course. The hotel offers convenient access to Bangkok's leading attractions, including Asiatique The Riverfront, ICONSIAM shopping mall, Chinatown, and the creative spaces of Charoen Krung. Guests can also enjoy bespoke transport experiences, including private river journeys and chauffeured Bentley transfers.

The opening comes as Bangkok continues to strengthen its position as a regional hub for both leisure and business travel. The city is set to host the World Travel & Culture Expo 2026, targeting ASEAN tourism growth, and will welcome 15,000 IMF-World Bank delegates in a major MICE win for Thailand. These developments underscore the growing demand for premium accommodations in the capital.

Langham Hospitality Group's expansion in Asia reflects broader trends in the luxury hotel sector, with brands like IHG opening their first Kimpton in Indonesia and rebranding properties to voco to target premium demand. The Langham, Custom House, Bangkok is poised to become a landmark destination for discerning travellers seeking a blend of heritage, culture, and elevated luxury.
