Marina Bay Sands has entered a two-year partnership with the SG Eco Fund to advance environmental sustainability and climate resilience across Singapore. The collaboration, announced in June, aims to engage both the public and the travel industry in meaningful climate action through a series of educational and cultural initiatives.
Film Festival and Exhibitions at ArtScience Museum
Central to the partnership is the Sustainable Futures Film Festival, hosted at the ArtScience Museum from 12 June to 31 August 2026. The festival offers 12 complimentary screenings of documentaries and feature films, including A Life Illuminated and Blue Carbon: Nature's Hidden Power, which explore marine biology and blue carbon ecosystems. The program supports Singapore's Year of Climate Adaptation by highlighting climate change impacts through a multidisciplinary lens.
Beyond film, the ArtScience Museum will feature interactive exhibitions focused on biodiversity and sustainability. These exhibits are designed to educate visitors on ecological conservation and the role of hospitality in reducing environmental footprints.
Community Workshops and Learning Tours
The partnership extends to collaboration with SG Eco Fund grant recipients, who will host booths, art installations, learning tours, and sustainability workshops for students and the general public. These activities aim to foster community involvement in climate resilience, a key priority for Singapore's tourism sector as it seeks to attract environmentally conscious travelers.
Marina Bay Sands' commitment to sustainability is underpinned by its Sands ECO360 strategy, which has achieved significant reductions in emissions and water usage. The resort maintains its Events Industry Council Platinum certification and Global Sustainable Tourism Council accreditation, reinforcing its leadership in sustainable hospitality. This initiative aligns with broader industry trends, such as the UnionPay and Singapore Tourism Board partnership to boost visitor spending through sustainable practices.
The launch event on 11 June was attended by Goh Hanyan, Senior Parliamentary Secretary at the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, underscoring government support for the initiative. For travel professionals, this partnership signals a growing emphasis on sustainability as a differentiator in the competitive MICE and luxury travel markets. Similar cross-industry collaborations, like the IHCL and oneworld Alliance loyalty partnership, highlight how sustainability can be integrated into loyalty and event programming.
As Singapore positions itself as a hub for sustainable tourism, Marina Bay Sands' efforts provide a model for other hospitality operators. The initiative also complements the COITM 2026 partnership with Beijing Chaoyang District, which focuses on inbound-outbound tourism festivals with sustainability themes. For airline executives and tour operators, such programs enhance destination appeal and support the growing demand for eco-conscious travel experiences.
