Mastercard has expanded its premium travel benefits with the launch of its first Taste by Priceless dining club in Asia Pacific, located at Hong Kong International Airport (HKG). The venue, which opened in Terminal 1 near Gate 40, is designed to give eligible cardholders a refined culinary experience before departure, reinforcing the growing trend of airports becoming destinations in their own right.
The dining club is accessible to World Legend, World Elite, and World Mastercard holders, regardless of where their card was issued. It features two distinct dining areas: The Counter, an intimate chef-led tasting menu experience, and The Cove, a more relaxed à la carte setting. Both menus blend Asian and Western influences, with an emphasis on local culinary heritage.
Airports as destinations
Joyce Bo, Executive Vice President of Core Payments, Asia Pacific at Mastercard, said: “Trips today extend beyond the destination itself. As airports increasingly become part of the journey rather than simply a transit point, more travellers are looking for experiences that are worth arriving early for.”
The launch is part of The Mastercard Collection, a portfolio of premium travel, dining, and entertainment benefits. World Legend cardholders receive unlimited complimentary access for themselves and up to three guests, while World Elite and World cardholders can enter at a preferential rate.
This initiative follows similar Mastercard dining clubs at São Paulo–Guarulhos International Airport and an upcoming location in Mexico City, signalling a broader push to integrate high-end hospitality into the airport experience. The Hong Kong venue also features an installation by Chinese artist Xinran Guan, adding a cultural dimension to the space.
For travel professionals, the move underscores how payment networks are increasingly partnering with airports and hospitality operators to create exclusive experiences that drive cardholder loyalty and spending. It also highlights the growing importance of premium airport amenities in attracting high-value travellers.
Mastercard’s strategy aligns with broader industry efforts to enhance the pre-flight experience. Airlines and airports have been investing in lounges, wellness facilities, and dining options to differentiate themselves. The dining club at HKG is a notable example of how non-aeronautical revenue streams are being developed through partnerships with financial services companies.
The Hong Kong airport has been a key hub for premium travel in Asia, and this new offering is likely to appeal to frequent flyers and luxury travellers. It also reflects the increasing competition among airports to provide unique experiences that encourage early arrival and longer dwell times.
Mastercard’s expansion into airport dining is part of a wider trend of lifestyle benefits being integrated into travel loyalty programmes. Similar initiatives have been seen in the hotel and cruise sectors, where brands are partnering with dining and entertainment providers to offer exclusive perks. For example, La Dolce Vita Orient Express has launched curated golf itineraries in Italy, and Alum has introduced luxury club hotels for US college football fans, showing how lifestyle and travel are converging.
The dining club at HKG is expected to be a draw for business travellers and premium cardholders, offering a quiet, upscale environment away from the terminal’s busy concourses. With the rise of remote work and bleisure travel, such spaces are becoming more important for travellers who need to combine productivity with relaxation.
Mastercard’s investment in airport dining also reflects the growing importance of Asia Pacific as a travel market. The region has seen strong recovery in international travel, and airports are investing in infrastructure to cater to premium passengers. The Hong Kong launch is likely to be followed by other locations in the region, as Mastercard seeks to build on its network of exclusive experiences.
For travel agents and tour operators, the availability of such benefits can be a selling point when advising clients on premium travel options. The dining club is part of a broader suite of Mastercard benefits that include airport lounge access, travel insurance, and concierge services, which can enhance the overall travel experience.
As airports continue to evolve into lifestyle destinations, partnerships like this one are set to become more common. The success of the Hong Kong dining club will be closely watched by industry observers, as it could pave the way for similar launches at other major Asian hubs.
