Mews, the Amsterdam-based hospitality operating system, has introduced two new capabilities—Guest Messaging and Automations—aimed at cutting the administrative burden on hotel staff while sharpening the guest experience. The launch responds to a persistent industry pain point: front-desk and operations teams spending disproportionate hours on repetitive tasks that add little value to the stay.
Guest Messaging funnels all communication channels—SMS, WhatsApp, Booking.com, and others—into a single AI-powered inbox. The system, trained on each property's own data, can instantly handle roughly 80% of routine enquiries, from pool hours to late checkout requests. That matters because, according to Mews, one in three guest messages currently goes unanswered. By automating those responses, staff can redirect their attention to more complex, high-touch guest needs.
Matt Marrs of Llano Real Estate Group, a Mews customer, said the tool has transformed their operations. "Guest messaging has been a game changer for us. We can broadcast messages to all guests simultaneously, saving time and ensuring consistent communication," he noted.
Automation without code
The second feature, Automations, is a no-code workflow engine that lets hotels set rules for personalized experiences without depending on specific staff availability. Properties can automate welcome messages, manage loyalty upgrades, or trigger housekeeping requests based on guest behavior. Mews reports that at selected properties, 60% of upgrades for Gold and Platinum loyalty members now happen automatically.
Joel Ndreu, VP of Product and Engineering at Mews, emphasized the dual benefit: "Guest Messaging is about giving staff time back, and Automations ensure memorable guest experiences happen automatically."
The launch arrives as hoteliers increasingly weigh the trade-offs of AI adoption, particularly around guest trust and data privacy. For operators, the appeal is clear: reduced operational friction and more consistent service delivery, especially during peak periods when staffing is stretched.
Mews continues to expand its automation ecosystem, allowing hotels to tailor workflows to their specific operational needs. The platform's open architecture supports integration with major booking and messaging channels, making it a flexible option for properties ranging from boutique independents to multi-property groups.
For travel professionals watching the balance between AI efficiency and guest loyalty, Mews' approach offers a practical middle ground: automation handles the routine, while humans focus on the exceptional. As the hospitality sector rebounds, tools that reclaim staff time and elevate service standards are likely to gain traction.
Mews' move also reflects a broader trend in hotel distribution and technology partnerships, where platforms are consolidating capabilities to offer end-to-end solutions. With the new features, Mews positions itself not just as a property management system, but as a central hub for guest communication and operational intelligence.
Early adopters report measurable gains in response times and guest satisfaction scores. As the tools roll out more widely, expect to see more hotels publishing their own efficiency metrics—and more competitors following suit.
