Outletcity Metzingen, the German shopping destination near Stuttgart, will run a World Cup Summer campaign from 22 May to 18 July 2026, blending football-themed activations with extended retail hours and new brand openings. The programme targets both leisure shoppers and travel trade partners looking to package retail tourism with major sporting events.

Football activations and family programming

The centrepiece, "Your Stage, Your Show", invites visitors to book 90-minute slots for open-air football matches on the Outletcity Court at Lindenplatz. A BOLZBOX interactive table football installation and a giant Adidas football sculpture provide additional photo and play opportunities. Professional football freestylers will perform live on 27 June and 11 July at locations including Lindenplatz and Hugo Boss Square.

Family-focused days on 4 July and 11 July offer face painting and glitter tattoos. The campaign aligns with the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is expected to drive significant travel demand across host cities and retail hubs. Retail expansions and extended hours

Outletcity Metzingen has added Canadian outerwear brand Moose Knuckles to its tenant mix, strengthening its luxury and lifestyle offer. The VfB Fan Sale runs from 1 June to 27 June, offering up to 80% off selected merchandise from the local Bundesliga club.

Midnight Shopping events are scheduled for 26 June and 28 August, with stores open until midnight. Special Shopping Days from 31 July to 1 August and Sunday Shopping on 12 July provide additional flexibility for international visitors. These extended hours cater to tour operators and travel agents building itineraries that combine retail with cultural or sporting experiences.

The destination's MICE potential is also notable: group bookings for the football court and event spaces can be arranged through the Outletcity Metzingen sales team. For inspiration on large-scale event venues, see AYANA Bali Opens 1,850sqm Pillarless Grand Ballroom for MICE Events in 2026.

Strategic positioning for travel trade

Outletcity Metzingen, located roughly 30 minutes by train from Stuttgart Airport (STR), is well positioned to capture inbound traffic from World Cup travellers. The campaign runs concurrently with the tournament, which takes place across North America but generates global fan engagement and secondary travel to European retail hubs.

Travel agents and tour operators can package the destination with nearby hotel partners, including the Marriott Stuttgart and Steigenberger Graf Zeppelin. The combination of football activations, brand discounts, and extended shopping hours creates a compelling day-trip or overnight proposition for groups and independent travellers alike.

For cruise lines and tour operators offering pre- or post-World Cup European itineraries, Outletcity Metzingen provides a retail anchor that complements cultural stops in Stuttgart, Munich, or Frankfurt. The destination's management has indicated willingness to negotiate trade rates for group visits and to provide dedicated check-in counters for coach tours.

As the travel industry prepares for the 2026 World Cup, destinations like Outletcity Metzingen demonstrate how retail tourism can be integrated with major sporting events to drive footfall and spend. The campaign runs from 22 May to 18 July 2026, with additional shopping events extending into late August.
