Plaza Premium Group (PPG) has opened its flagship Plaza Premium Lounge at Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Located in Terminal 3 near Gate 6, the lounge is PPG's first in the country and a strategic addition to its growing African portfolio.
The 336-square-metre facility seats 86 guests and blends Tanzanian cultural motifs with contemporary design, aiming to offer a calm pre-flight environment. PPG's 'Proudly Local' culinary approach is central to the experience, with a menu featuring regional specialties such as Beef Mishikaki and Mtindi-braised Kuku Wa Kupaka, alongside traditional desserts.
Facilities and services
The lounge includes dedicated relaxation zones, multi-faith prayer rooms, and business areas equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi. It is designed to accommodate solo travelers, families, and business passengers, with amenities tailored to different needs.
PPG's entry into Dar es Salaam comes as Tanzania's aviation and tourism sectors expand, supported by increasing international connectivity. The group's move reinforces its commitment to emerging destinations and positions Africa as a key growth region.
Travelers can access the lounge daily, with passes available for purchase online or at the entrance. The opening follows PPG's recent initiatives, such as expanding lounge perks through partnerships, and aligns with broader industry trends in airport hospitality.
For travel professionals, the new lounge adds value for airlines and agents serving Dar es Salaam, offering a consistent premium experience in a market where such facilities are still limited. It also complements other recent hospitality openings in the region, such as Four Points by Sheraton's debut in Krabi, though in a different segment.
PPG's expansion in Africa is part of a wider strategy to grow its network in high-potential markets. The company operates lounges across Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, and has been increasing its footprint in Africa over the past few years.
The Dar es Salaam lounge is expected to serve both international and domestic passengers, with a focus on enhancing the overall travel experience. PPG's 'Proudly Local' philosophy is a key differentiator, as it incorporates regional flavors and design elements that resonate with travelers seeking authentic experiences.
Industry observers note that such investments are crucial for airports like Julius Nyerere, which are positioning themselves as regional hubs. The lounge's opening may also encourage other premium service providers to consider Tanzania, further boosting the country's appeal as a destination.
For agents and tour operators, the new lounge offers an additional selling point when packaging Tanzania itineraries, particularly for clients who value comfort and local culture. It also aligns with the growing trend of premium travel experiences across various modes.
PPG's move is a clear signal of confidence in Tanzania's aviation market, which has seen steady growth in passenger numbers and international routes. The lounge is set to become a key asset for the airport and a model for future PPG projects in the region.
