Sands China Ltd has become the first integrated tourism and leisure enterprise in Greater China to earn the Great Place To Work certification, a global benchmark for workplace culture. The designation, awarded by the San Francisco-based research and consulting firm, underscores the company's long-term investment in employee development and wellbeing across its Macao properties, which include The Venetian Macao, The Parisian Macao, and The Londoner Macao.

The certification process relied on an anonymous Trust Index Survey, in which 96% of Sands China employees agreed that the company is a great place to work. The firm scored an average of 92% across five key dimensions: credibility, respect, fairness, pride, and camaraderie. That result places Sands China well above the global average for certified organizations, which typically hovers around 70%.

People-centric strategy pays off

Grant Chum, chief executive officer and executive director of Sands China Ltd, said the accolade carries weight beyond the external validation. "The significance of this accolade extends beyond recognition from an authoritative international organisation. It also reflects the immense trust that our 28,000 team members have placed in the company," Chum said in a statement. He added that the certification reinforces the group's commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for its workforce.

Sands China's human resources strategy has already earned external recognition. The company was named a Top Employer by the Top Employers Institute for two consecutive years, a distinction that evaluates HR policies and practices. The latest Great Place To Work certification adds another layer of credibility, particularly as the integrated resort sector in Macao faces intense competition for talent amid the city's push for economic diversification.

The company's training arm, Sands China Academy, offers a wide range of programs designed to upskill employees and support career progression. The academy has become a cornerstone of the group's talent development efforts, aligning with the Macao SAR government's strategies to nurture local professionals. Family-friendly policies, including flexible work arrangements and parental leave, further bolster the workplace proposition.

Looking ahead, Sands China said it will continue to expand career opportunities for local talent and contribute to Macao's transformation into a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure. The certification is expected to enhance the group's employer brand, helping it attract and retain skilled workers in a competitive hospitality market.

The recognition also carries implications for the broader travel industry. As integrated resorts and hotel groups worldwide vie for top-tier staff, workplace certifications are becoming a differentiator. For travel professionals, the news signals that Sands China is prioritizing employee satisfaction as a strategic lever, a move that could influence hiring and retention patterns across the region.

For context, other hospitality players have also pursued workplace excellence. Atlantis Dubai's sustainability certifications highlight a different but complementary aspect of corporate responsibility. Meanwhile, Sands China's recent shopping carnival drew 160,000 visits, demonstrating the group's ability to drive footfall and support local SMEs.

The Great Place To Work certification is valid for one year, after which companies must reapply. Sands China's strong survey results suggest it is well positioned to retain the status, but the bar for workplace excellence continues to rise. As the travel industry rebounds, employers that invest in culture and employee experience are likely to gain a competitive edge.
