Spring Hotels has announced a significant investment programme for its two Tenerife properties, Cleopatra Palace and Mediterranean Palace, with plans unveiled at WTM London 2026. The group is repositioning Cleopatra Palace as a five-star wellness and lifestyle retreat, while Mediterranean Palace will see a stronger focus on family accommodation.
Cleopatra Palace: a wellness-led transformation
Located on the Golden Mile in Costa Adeje, Cleopatra Palace will undergo a comprehensive renovation featuring contemporary interiors, natural materials, and earthy tones. The property will introduce swim-up rooms, dedicated family zones, and an extensive wellness offer that includes hyperbaric chambers and daily yoga sessions. The hotel is also set to house what is expected to be the largest gym in Tenerife.
Beyond the fitness and recovery facilities, the property will add beach club-style social spaces, a rooftop terrace, and premium dining venues. The repositioning aims to attract a clientele seeking a holistic luxury experience, combining relaxation with active recovery.
Mediterranean Palace: enhancing the family proposition
At Mediterranean Palace, Spring Hotels is strengthening its family-friendly credentials with a new Family Suite concept. Families can book two connecting rooms as a single unit, providing two bedrooms and two bathrooms at a combined lower rate. The hotel will also debut a Splash Zone and convert its existing volleyball court into a dedicated children's activity area.
These changes are designed to offer more space and privacy for families while keeping costs competitive, a key consideration for the family travel segment.
Strong performance underpins investment
The renovation plans follow a robust trading year for Spring Hotels, which reported a 19% increase in revenue and a 15% rise in overnight stays. The group's confidence in the Tenerife market is evident in the scale of these investments.
Jo Robinson, Chief Sales Officer at Spring Hotels, commented: “With Cleopatra Palace, we have an opportunity to create something quite different, with a five-star experience that is designed for every mood and centred around wellness, recovery and lifestyle.”
The developments are part of a broader strategy to diversify the group's portfolio and appeal to a wider range of travellers, from wellness-focused couples to families seeking value-added holidays. The upgrades are expected to be completed in phases, with the new facilities rolling out over the coming year.
For travel professionals, the enhanced Cleopatra Palace and Mediterranean Palace will offer new selling points, particularly in the luxury wellness and family segments. The group's investment underscores the ongoing demand for high-quality accommodation in the Canary Islands, a key destination for European tour operators and agents.
Spring Hotels' move aligns with wider industry trends, as seen in recent portfolio expansions by Preferred Hotels and the unification of WorldHotels' properties under a single brand. These developments highlight the competitive landscape for hotel groups seeking to differentiate their offerings.
With the new facilities, Spring Hotels aims to strengthen its position in Tenerife and capture a larger share of the upscale and family travel markets. The group's investment is a clear signal of its commitment to the destination and its confidence in the continued growth of the Canary Islands tourism sector.
