Fairmont Hotels & Resorts has reached a significant milestone with the opening of its 100th property, Fairmont New Orleans. The hotel, located in the city's Central Business District, marks the brand's return to the Louisiana city after a two-decade absence.

The 250-room property occupies 17 floors of the former Bank of New Orleans building, a landmark originally designed in 1970. Interiors are by Rockwell Group, with dining concepts led by celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse. The hotel also boasts more than 19,000 square feet of meeting and event space, positioning it as a key player in the city's MICE segment.

A design nod to the 1970s

The hotel's design draws inspiration from the 1970s, a distinctive period in New Orleans' architectural history. Omer Acar, CEO of Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, said the opening of the brand's milestone property in New Orleans was a fitting match. "New Orleans is a city with an incredible story, and we are thrilled to bring Fairmont's signature hospitality to this vibrant destination," Acar said in a statement.

The property aims to become a social hub, blending the city's heritage with contemporary energy. This strategy aligns with broader trends in the hospitality industry, where hotels are increasingly positioning themselves as community gathering places. Similar moves have been seen with recent openings like Waldorf Astoria's Kuala Lumpur debut and JW Marriott's Sanya resort.

Dining and amenities

Guests can choose from several dining options, including Delmonico Steakhouse and The Café by Emeril. Delmonico Steakhouse makes its debut outside Las Vegas, combining classic steakhouse traditions with bold New Orleans flavours. The Café by Emeril offers a more relaxed, brasserie-style experience.

Beyond restaurants, the hotel features a rooftop pool and cocktail lounge. A 10,000-square-foot spa and fitness centre is scheduled to open in December, expanding the property's wellness and leisure offerings. These facilities are designed to attract both visitors and locals, reinforcing the hotel's role as a new gathering place.

The opening also adds to New Orleans' growing hospitality landscape, which has seen a wave of new properties in recent years. For travel professionals, the Fairmont New Orleans represents a fresh option for corporate events and leisure stays in the city. With its extensive event space, the hotel is well-positioned to cater to the MICE market, a segment that continues to rebound globally.

Fairmont's expansion comes as other hotel groups also push into new markets. For instance, Four Points by Sheraton recently opened its first Krabi resort, and jüSTa Hotels & Resorts signed a 50-key Shimla property for 2027. These moves highlight the ongoing dynamism in the hospitality sector.

Fairmont New Orleans is now open for bookings, with rates starting at $299 per night. The hotel is expected to become a landmark in the city's Central Business District, offering a blend of luxury, heritage, and modern amenities.
