Thailand has won the bid to host the 2030 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (IEEE ICRA 2030), marking the first time the prestigious event will be held in the country. The conference, scheduled for 13–17 June 2030 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre in Bangkok, is expected to attract approximately 10,000 delegates, including 8,000 international participants.

The bid was spearheaded by the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) in partnership with the Faculty of Engineering at Mahidol University, the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society Thailand Chapter, and the IEEE Thailand Section. The announcement was made during a press conference on 21 July at The St. Regis Bangkok Hotel.

Strategic Win for Thailand's MICE Sector

Jittanun Techasarin, Director of the Conventions Department at TCEB, emphasized that securing IEEE ICRA 2030 aligns with Thailand's broader strategy to attract high-value events in advanced technology sectors. "Winning the bid for IEEE ICRA 2030 reinforces our strategy of attracting world-class events in high-value sectors such as robotics, automation, and advanced technologies," she stated.

This victory comes on the heels of other major MICE wins for Bangkok, including the upcoming IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings. For more on that event, see Bangkok Gears Up for 15,000 IMF-World Bank Delegates in Major MICE Win for Thailand.

Associate Professor Dr. Jackrit Suthakorn from Mahidol University highlighted the conference's role as a bridge between academia, industry, and government. "IEEE ICRA provides businesses with direct access to leading researchers and technology developers," he noted, adding that it serves as a catalyst for technological advancements and investment opportunities.

The economic impact of IEEE ICRA 2030 is projected to be substantial, with an estimated $29.5 million (THB 1.06 billion) in economic activity, the creation of approximately 745 jobs, and a contribution of $16.4 million (THB 590.6 million) in value added to the Thai economy. This underscores Thailand's growing reputation as a hub for innovation and manufacturing in the region.

Thailand's MICE sector has been gaining momentum, supported by visa policy adjustments and infrastructure investments. The country recently kept visa-free entry for Indians, easing industry concerns over demand dips. Additionally, new air routes and digital partnerships are deepening tourism ties with Western China, as reported in Thailand Deepens Tourism Ties with Western China via Air Route Expansion and Digital Partnerships.

For travel professionals, IEEE ICRA 2030 represents a significant opportunity to engage with cutting-edge technology and potential business partners. The conference will feature robotics, AI, and automation innovations that could transform travel industry operations, from airport logistics to hotel automation and cruise ship management.

Thailand's success in securing this event also highlights the country's competitive edge in the global MICE market, offering world-class venues like the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre and a robust hospitality infrastructure. As the event approaches, travel professionals should monitor developments for networking and business opportunities.
