Visa and the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) have formalised a three-year strategic partnership aimed at strengthening Singapore's position as a premier global travel destination. The memorandum of understanding, signed on 22 October 2026, outlines a collaborative framework focused on three core pillars: promoting Singapore's tourism products, leveraging data-driven insights to attract high-value visitors, and developing co-branded marketing initiatives.
Visa Destinations expands to Singapore
A key component of the agreement is Singapore's inclusion in Visa Destinations, a global travel programme that curates strategic partnerships and exclusive experiences across tourism precincts. The programme, which launched in Thailand, will debut in Singapore in November, positioning the city-state alongside established destinations such as London, New York, and Paris. Visa Destinations aims to transform how travellers discover and engage with iconic locales, offering cardholders access to unique benefits and curated itineraries.
Visa's proprietary data underscores the significance of shopping and dining in traveller expenditure, reinforcing the need for tailored experiences. Notably, repeat visitors to Singapore spend approximately four times more than first-time visitors, highlighting the value of fostering meaningful engagement. The partnership will therefore focus on creating packages for Visa cardholders that spotlight local businesses and Singapore's vibrant nightlife, encouraging longer stays and higher spend.
Data-driven targeting of key source markets
The collaboration will also harness Visa's extensive cardholder data network to identify high-value tourism opportunities. Key inbound travel corridors for Singapore include Australia, Indonesia, Mainland China, Malaysia, and the United States. By pooling market intelligence, Visa and STB aim to tailor initiatives for markets with the greatest growth potential, ensuring that marketing efforts are both efficient and effective.
Adeline Kim, Visa's Country Manager for Singapore and Brunei, commented: "Visa Destinations will help turn inspiration into action by connecting our cardholders with benefits, exclusive access, and distinctive experiences. This partnership with STB reflects our commitment to driving tourism growth through innovation and collaboration."
Melissa Ow, Chief Executive of the Singapore Tourism Board, added: "This partnership aims to create more opportunities for our tourism businesses and advance STB's Tourism 2040 priorities. By working with Visa, we can leverage data and global reach to attract high-value travellers and enhance Singapore's appeal as a must-visit destination."
The announcement comes as Singapore continues to bolster its tourism offerings, with recent developments such as the autumn culinary lineup at Conrad Singapore Orchard and the launch of Chiang Mai's first electric tram by AWC, reflecting a broader regional push to enhance visitor experiences. The partnership with Visa is expected to complement these efforts, providing a seamless payment and discovery ecosystem for international travellers.
For travel professionals, the collaboration signals a growing trend of payments companies and tourism boards joining forces to drive destination marketing and visitor engagement. Similar initiatives, such as the AI-powered partnership between Tourism Malaysia and Alipay+, underscore the increasing importance of data and technology in shaping tourism strategies.
As Singapore positions itself for the next phase of tourism growth, the Visa-STB partnership is set to deliver tangible benefits for local businesses, from F&B outlets to retail and attractions, while offering cardholders a more personalised and rewarding travel experience. The programme's rollout in November will be closely watched by industry stakeholders as a model for future collaborations.
