Aviator Airport Alliance has appointed Minna Virmajoki as managing director of its Finnish unit, effective immediately. Virmajoki, who joined the company in 2023 as finance director and most recently served as interim managing director, now takes the helm permanently.
Her background spans finance and business leadership across multiple industries. Since joining Aviator, she has worked closely with operational teams and airline customers in Finland, gradually expanding her responsibilities. “Aviator’s motto ‘For every take-off’ reflects our commitment to reliability, safety, and teamwork,” Virmajoki said. She plans to focus on operational excellence, staff development, and a culture of continuous improvement.
Nordic Ground Handling Leadership
Aviator operates at 15 airports across the Nordic region, providing passenger handling, ramp services, and aircraft maintenance. Its airline clients include SAS, Finnair, and Lufthansa Group. The company is part of Avia Solutions Group, the world’s largest ACMI provider, which employs 14,000 aviation professionals across six continents.
Jo Alex Tanem, CEO of Aviator Airport Alliance, expressed confidence in Virmajoki’s leadership, noting her success in steering the Finnish operations through recent transitions. He also thanked former managing director Kimmo Holopainen for his contributions.
Virmajoki’s appointment comes as Nordic aviation continues to recover and adapt to shifting travel patterns. Airlines in the region are increasingly focused on operational reliability and cost efficiency, making ground handling partnerships critical. Delta’s recent retrofit of 240 Boeing 737s with fuel-saving VCT finlets underscores the industry-wide push for efficiency.
For travel professionals, the change signals continuity at a key ground handler in the Nordic market. Aviator’s ability to maintain service quality while managing costs will be closely watched by airlines and tour operators relying on its network.
