Fliggy, the online travel platform under Alibaba Group, has launched a series of tech-themed tour packages targeting international visitors to China. The move comes as the company reports a 237% year-on-year increase in inbound summer travel bookings, driven by strong demand from Malaysia, South Korea, and Canada.

The new itineraries go beyond traditional cultural and natural sightseeing, offering deep dives into China's technology sectors. Travelers can visit Alibaba's headquarters in Hangzhou to explore artificial intelligence (AI) advancements and interact with humanoid robots. Other stops include facilities focused on brain-computer interfaces, electric vehicles, and autonomous driving.

Top Destinations and Booking Channels

Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Beijing, and Xi'an are the most popular destinations among inbound travelers. Fliggy has made the tech tours available on AliExpress, and the company reports a significant uptick in international enquiries since launch.

Fliggy's inbound travel business has seen a compound annual growth rate exceeding 300% in gross merchandise value since 2023. The platform has expanded its ecosystem to include multiple booking channels and regional e-wallets such as Alipay HK and Gcash, simplifying travel arrangements for visitors from Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, and other global markets.

This strategic expansion aligns with broader trends in the travel industry, where personalization and unique experiences are increasingly valued. For travel professionals, the surge in tech-themed bookings signals a shift in consumer preferences toward experiential and knowledge-based travel. As noted in a recent report on Southern Europe and North America leading summer 2026 demand, similar patterns of experiential travel are emerging globally.

Fliggy's approach also mirrors innovations in travel technology, such as TravelAI's Traveller.md, which focuses on personalized planning. By offering curated tech experiences, Fliggy is positioning itself at the intersection of tourism and technology, a niche that could attract a new segment of high-spending, curiosity-driven travelers.

For tour operators and agents, these packages present an opportunity to diversify product offerings. The inclusion of Alibaba's headquarters and other tech hubs provides a unique selling point that differentiates China from other destinations. Meanwhile, the integration of regional e-wallets addresses a key pain point for international visitors, making transactions smoother and more accessible.

Industry observers note that Fliggy's rapid growth in inbound travel—compounding at over 300% annually—reflects China's broader push to boost tourism post-pandemic. The country has been easing visa policies and expanding digital payment options to attract more visitors. Fliggy's tech-themed tours are a direct response to this policy environment, leveraging China's reputation as a global leader in AI and robotics.

As the travel industry continues to recover, the success of these packages could influence how other destinations and platforms design their offerings. For now, Fliggy is betting that the allure of cutting-edge technology will draw a new wave of international travelers to China's major cities.
