TravelAI, a travel technology company, unveiled Traveller.md at the Phocuswright Europe conference in Barcelona. The tool is a portable, user-owned memory file designed to store a traveller's preferences, history, and intentions, accessible to AI systems only with the traveller's explicit consent. This launch marks the first step in TravelAI's broader strategy to integrate artificial intelligence into the travel industry.

How Traveller.md Works

Traveller.md automatically compiles data from AI-assisted interactions, creating a seamless and personalised travel experience. The file can be carried across different tools and platforms, allowing travellers to maintain a consistent set of preferences. John Lyotier, CEO of TravelAI, stated, "Effective AI should remember what matters, respect permissions, and make travel easier. Traveller.md gives travellers a memory file they own."

Brianna MacNeil, Director of AI Products & Personalisation at TravelAI, added, "Traveller.md is the first memory file that lets travellers carry the nuance of how they like to travel into any tool they choose." This approach aims to reduce friction in travel planning by providing a "warm-start" personalisation that builds on past interactions.

Initial Deployment and Future Plans

The tool is initially being applied to TravelAI's network of over 531 consumer-facing brands. Individual travellers can create their own profiles for free at Traveller.md. The company plans to expand to enterprise customers, including airlines, hotel groups, cruise lines, and tour operators. For example, a traveller using Traveller.md could have their preferences automatically applied when booking a flight with a partner airline or a cabin on a cruise line like MSC Cruises.

TravelAI's strategy aligns with broader industry trends where AI is reshaping travel distribution. As younger travellers increasingly book based on influence and social commerce, tools like Traveller.md could become essential for delivering personalised offers. This development also complements innovations such as InterLnkd's NEXORA, which boosts inflight ancillary revenue through personalised offers.

Implications for Travel Professionals

For travel professionals, Traveller.md offers a way to enhance customer satisfaction and business outcomes. By providing a portable memory file, the tool reduces the need for travellers to repeatedly input preferences, streamlining the booking process. This could be particularly valuable for tour operators and travel agents who manage complex itineraries, such as those offered by Avalon Waterways or Explora II.

TravelAI's approach also addresses privacy concerns by ensuring that data is only shared with the traveller's consent. This could build trust and encourage adoption among privacy-conscious consumers. As the travel industry continues to adopt AI, tools like Traveller.md may become standard for personalisation across airlines, hotels, and cruise lines.

The launch at Phocuswright Europe underscores the growing importance of AI in travel technology. TravelAI's focus on user-owned data could set a precedent for how the industry handles personalisation and data privacy in the future.
