Hongkong Land has unveiled Destination CENTRAL, a new initiative designed to reposition Hong Kong's Central district as a must-visit destination for both local residents and international travelers. Launched on 9 October 2026, the program centers on a travel-inspired Central Passport that guides participants through a curated series of experiences, retail offers, and cultural events.

The Central Passport, which draws on the aesthetics of a traditional travel document, features personal stories and recommendations from local figures, including tram motormen and celebrated chefs. It is available at multiple collection points across the district, and visitors can personalize it with stamps from eight designated locations. Those who collect three stamps can enter a lucky draw at the Destination CENTRAL Redemption Counter in LANDMARK ATRIUM, with prizes including up to 66,000 Asia Miles.

Louis Vuitton and the Spirit of Travel

A key highlight is the Louis Vuitton mega-art installation at LANDMARK, part of the luxury brand's global Spirit of Travel series. The installation is accompanied by a pop-up store and a forthcoming exhibition, offering visitors a glimpse into the world of the French fashion house. This partnership underscores the growing trend of luxury brands using experiential retail to engage travelers, a strategy that has proven effective in major shopping destinations across Asia.

In collaboration with Hong Kong Tramways, LANDMARK has also introduced the LANDMARK Tram Station and Heritage Route, which showcases Central's transport heritage. The initiative includes a dedicated tram stop and a heritage route that highlights the district's iconic double-decker trams, a beloved symbol of Hong Kong.

New dining concept and autumn events

Adding to the appeal is THE CHATER, an exclusive dining concept that opens with a menu curated by Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong. The menu features international flavors and gourmet bites, positioning THE CHATER as a new culinary destination within Central. This move reflects a broader trend among retail landlords to integrate high-end F&B offerings to extend dwell time and attract discerning travelers.

From 17 to 31 October, Central will transform into an autumn playground with a series of events supported by the Hong Kong Tourism Board. These events are designed to showcase the district's vibrant culture and entertainment options, further cementing its status as a dynamic urban hub.

Olivia Luk, a representative of Hongkong Land, expressed excitement about the initiative, stating that it invites the public to discover Central's charm anew. The program also offers exclusive rewards for HSBC BESPOKE members, enhancing the experience for high-value visitors.

Destination CENTRAL is part of a broader effort by Hongkong Land to revitalize its retail portfolio in Hong Kong, which includes the LANDMARK complex and surrounding properties. The initiative comes at a time when Hong Kong's tourism industry is rebounding, with visitor numbers steadily increasing. According to recent data, the city welcomed over 40 million visitors in the first half of 2026, a significant recovery from the pandemic years.

For travel professionals, Destination CENTRAL offers a case study in how retail landlords can collaborate with luxury brands, cultural institutions, and local authorities to create compelling destination experiences. The integration of a passport-style loyalty program, exclusive events, and partnerships with airlines and hotels could serve as a model for other urban retail districts seeking to attract international travelers.

As the travel industry continues to evolve, initiatives like Destination CENTRAL highlight the importance of placemaking and experiential marketing in driving footfall and spending. For agents and tour operators, such programs offer new opportunities to craft unique itineraries that go beyond traditional sightseeing, incorporating shopping, dining, and cultural immersion.
