Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) and Bahrain's Kingdom Projects have unveiled a $100 million joint investment that will bring three major lifestyle developments to the Kingdom. The partnership, announced during Gateway Gulf 2026, marks the first entry of the Taj hotel brand into Bahrain, alongside the launch of Bombay Brasserie and a flagship Hamleys toy store.

The centerpiece is Taj Hotel Downtown Seef, a 200-key luxury property that will also include 80 branded residences. Developed by Kingdom Projects in collaboration with IHCL, the hotel will blend Taj's signature hospitality with premium residential living. Construction is expected to begin shortly, with Kingdom Projects serving as Taj's exclusive partner in Bahrain and both companies exploring further development opportunities beyond the initial pipeline.

Gateway Gulf 2026 announcement

The investment was revealed at the fourth edition of Gateway Gulf, held on 1–2 November 2026 at the Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay. The event, themed Reimagining Global Partnerships, Powering Sustainable Growth, brought together investors and business leaders to discuss regional opportunities. Noor bint Ali Alkhulaif, Minister of Sustainable Development and Chief Executive of Bahrain EDB, and Fatima bint Jaafar Al Sairafi, Minister of Tourism, were present at the announcement.

Alkhulaif commented: "Kingdom Projects' investments reflect the continued confidence investors place in Bahrain as a trusted destination for high-quality, long-term investment." She added that introducing international brands across hospitality, dining, and retail would diversify Bahrain's offering and support growth in key economic sectors.

The announcement follows a period of increased international interest in Bahrain's tourism and hospitality landscape. The country has been actively courting global brands, and this deal aligns with its strategy to position itself as a regional hub for luxury travel and family entertainment. For context, AirAsia's recent board appointment underscores the growing aviation connectivity to the island nation.

Bombay Brasserie and Hamleys flagship

Bombay Brasserie, IHCL's contemporary Indian dining concept, is set to open in Bahrain Bay in the first quarter of 2027. Interior fit-out works are already underway, and the restaurant is expected to enhance Bahrain Bay's reputation as a destination for upscale dining. The brand brings Taj's culinary heritage to a market that has seen a surge in high-end food and beverage offerings.

Meanwhile, a flagship Hamleys showroom will open at The Avenues Bahrain, also in Q1 2027. Owned by Reliance Retail, Hamleys will offer its extensive toy collection alongside interactive retail experiences designed for families. The store is part of Bahrain's push to expand family-oriented attractions and experiential retail, a segment that has become increasingly important for tourism boards across the Gulf.

The three developments are expected to create employment opportunities across hotels, food and beverage, and retail sectors. For travel professionals, the arrival of Taj in Bahrain adds a new luxury option for corporate and leisure clients, while the Hamleys flagship could become a draw for family travelers. The investment also signals confidence in Bahrain's long-term tourism growth, which has been supported by initiatives like rising cruise passenger numbers and expanded air links.

Bahrain EDB has worked closely with Kingdom Projects to facilitate investment and stakeholder engagement. The partnership is part of a broader effort to diversify the Kingdom's tourism offering, combining luxury accommodation, international dining, and family entertainment to attract visitors from the region and beyond.
