JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu has strengthened its leadership team with the appointment of Deepali Singhal as Director of Human Resources. Singhal, who brings more than 25 years of experience across luxury hospitality and aviation, will oversee the hotel's Human Resources and Learning & Development functions, with a mandate to enhance talent development and reinforce workplace culture.
A career spanning aviation and luxury hotels
Singhal's career began at Jet Airways, where she spent a decade in the airline's human resources division before transitioning to hospitality. She subsequently held HR leadership roles at Hyatt Regency and Hyatt Pune, gaining exposure to the operational and cultural complexities of large-scale hotel properties.
Most recently, Singhal served as Director of Human Resources at Conrad Pune, part of the Hilton portfolio. During her tenure there, the property earned Great Place to Work certification for three consecutive years — a recognition that underscores her ability to build engaged, high-performing teams.
Her appointment comes at a significant moment for JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu, which is approaching its 25th anniversary. The hotel, a landmark on Mumbai's Juhu beachfront, has long been a fixture in the city's luxury hospitality scene, and Singhal's experience in talent management is expected to support its ongoing efforts to nurture staff and elevate the colleague experience.
“I am delighted to join JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu and be part of a team with such a rich legacy. Throughout my career, I have believed that the strength of any organisation lies in its people and the opportunities they are given to grow,” Singhal said.
Her remarks reflect a broader trend in the hospitality industry, where human resources leaders are increasingly seen as strategic partners in driving service quality and guest satisfaction. As hotels compete for top talent, particularly in key markets like Mumbai, the role of HR directors has expanded beyond administrative duties to include culture-building and leadership development.
JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu is part of Marriott International's growing portfolio in India, which has seen significant expansion in recent years. The group's broader Asia Pacific footprint continues to grow, with Marriott recently surpassing 800 hotels in the region following its debut in Laos. The company has also been active in the luxury segment, with properties like JW Marriott's first Fiji resort and the new JW Marriott Sanya Haitang Bay in China.
Singhal's appointment also aligns with Marriott's emphasis on associate engagement and retention, which the company has identified as a key driver of guest satisfaction. Her track record at Conrad Pune, where she helped achieve sustained Great Place to Work recognition, suggests she will bring a similar focus to JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu.
Industry observers note that HR leadership in luxury hotels is becoming more critical as properties face rising labor costs and a competitive hiring environment. The ability to attract, develop, and retain skilled staff is often a differentiator for high-end brands, and Singhal's dual background in aviation and hospitality gives her a broad perspective on service excellence.
At JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu, Singhal will work closely with the hotel's general manager and department heads to implement training programs, succession planning, and initiatives aimed at improving employee well-being. The hotel's 25th anniversary, expected to be marked later this year, will also provide a platform for celebrating its workforce and heritage.
Singhal's move is the latest in a series of executive appointments across Marriott's India operations. Earlier this year, Anuj Agrawal was named finance director at The Ritz-Carlton, Pune, and Manoj Rawat took the helm at Jakarta Marriott Hotel Gelora, reflecting the group's focus on strengthening leadership across the region.
With her extensive experience and a clear vision for people development, Deepali Singhal is poised to make a significant impact at JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu, ensuring the property remains a preferred employer in Mumbai's competitive hospitality market.
