Korean Air has once again demonstrated its leadership in premium inflight hospitality, taking home six awards at the 2026 Cellars in the Sky competition, organized by Business Traveller. The annual event, established in 1985, is one of the most respected benchmarks for airline wine programs globally, with entries evaluated through blind tastings by an independent panel of experts.

The carrier’s standout performer was the Château Guiraud 2022, which earned a gold medal in the First Class Dessert Wine category with a score of 94 points. Judges praised its rich texture and suitability for pairing with desserts, a key consideration for airlines curating multi-course menus at 35,000 feet.

Bronze and Commended Selections

Beyond the gold, Korean Air collected bronze awards for the Shafer One Point Five 2023 in the First Class Red Wine category and the Champagne Palmer & Co Grands Terroirs 2015 in the Business Class Sparkling Wine category. The Krug Grande Cuvée 173ème Édition, served in First Class, received a highly commended distinction, further underscoring the depth of the airline’s wine list.

Korean Air also achieved third-place finishes in both the First Class and Business Class Wine Cellar overall rankings, a testament to the consistency and quality of its selection across cabins.

Curated Selection Across Cabins

Currently, Korean Air offers 61 wines across its service classes, including 20 in First Class and 30 in Prestige Class (the airline’s business-class product). The wines are chosen to complement the inflight dining experience and are rotated regularly to maintain variety for frequent travelers. This approach aligns with broader industry trends where airlines like Singapore Airlines and Emirates invest heavily in sommelier-curated programs to differentiate their premium cabins.

The awards come as Korean Air continues to enhance its overall inflight experience, a strategy that has helped it maintain a strong reputation among business and leisure travelers on key routes such as Seoul Incheon to New York JFK, Los Angeles, and London Heathrow. The airline’s focus on premium service is particularly relevant as competition intensifies on long-haul markets, where carriers like Cathay Pacific and Qatar Airways also vie for high-yield passengers.

For travel professionals, these accolades signal that Korean Air remains a strong partner for corporate travel programs and luxury itineraries. The airline’s wine program is a tangible differentiator that agents and tour operators can highlight when booking clients in premium cabins.

In related hospitality news, BWH Hotels recently won two categories at the Lifestyle + Travel Awards 2024, while Royal Caribbean dominated the 2026 Travel Awards, showing that recognition across travel sectors continues to drive brand preference.

Korean Air’s performance at the Cellars in the Sky Awards reinforces its position as a carrier that invests in the details that matter to discerning travelers. As the airline industry recovers and premium demand grows, such distinctions become increasingly valuable for both customer loyalty and market positioning.
