Marriott International has reached a historic milestone with the opening of its 10,000th property, the JW Marriott Ranthambore Resort & Spa in India. The resort, located near the famed Ranthambore National Park, features 127 luxury accommodations including private villas, multiple dining venues serving modern Indian cuisine and locally inspired cocktails, and a full-service spa. The opening comes as the company approaches its centenary, reflecting a journey from a nine-seat root beer stand in Washington, D.C., to a global hospitality powerhouse operating in 146 countries and territories.

Leadership and Ownership Celebrate the Milestone

The resort's inauguration was attended by company leaders including David Marriott, Chairman of the Board, and Rajeev Menon, President of Asia Pacific excluding China, alongside the property's owner, Nilesh Gadhiya. Anthony Capuano, President and CEO of Marriott International, said in a statement: “Marking this accomplishment with a property carrying the JW Marriott brand is especially meaningful given its naming after our co-founder, J. Willard Marriott.”

The JW Marriott brand now encompasses more than 130 properties worldwide, forming part of Marriott's luxury portfolio that totals nearly 700 properties across 74 countries. Recent additions to that portfolio include The St. Regis Budapest in Hungary, The Westin Playa Vallarta in Mexico, and Artik Suzhou in China. The company has also deepened its luxury wellness offering through a joint venture with the Leali family to expand the Lefay brand, as reported in Marriott International and Leali Family Launch Joint Venture to Expand Lefay Luxury Wellness Brand.

India remains a key growth market for Marriott. The country's business travel segment is projected to surge 74% as cost control drives technology adoption, according to Indian Firms Forecast 74% Surge in Business Travel as Cost Control Drives Tech Adoption. Competitors are also expanding in the region: Dusit International recently signed a property in Rishikesh, as covered in Dusit International Signs Rishikesh Property, Deepens India Footprint.

The JW Marriott Ranthambore Resort & Spa is designed to offer guests a transformative experience that blends luxury with the natural surroundings of one of India's most famous tiger reserves. The property's architecture and interiors draw inspiration from local Rajasthani heritage, while its spa and wellness facilities emphasize holistic well-being. The resort also features event spaces suitable for MICE groups, including a grand ballroom and multiple meeting rooms, catering to the growing demand for high-end corporate retreats and incentive travel in India.

Marriott's milestone underscores the broader trend of luxury hospitality expansion in emerging markets. With the JW Marriott brand now present in over 30 countries, the company continues to leverage its scale to offer diverse experiences for travelers globally. The opening also highlights the importance of India as a strategic market for international hotel groups, driven by rising domestic tourism and increasing inbound travel from business and leisure segments alike.
