Visit Qatar is rolling out its Hala Summer 2026 programme, a targeted campaign to draw families from across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to the country's leading waterparks. The initiative underscores Qatar's strategy to position itself as a convenient summer escape for neighbouring markets, leveraging its central location and road accessibility from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Oman.

Meryal Waterpark: A Landmark Attraction in Lusail

At the heart of the campaign is Meryal Waterpark, situated on Qetaifan Island North in Lusail. As Qatar's largest waterpark, it features 53 slides and 69 attractions, including the 85-metre Icon Tower, recognised as the world's tallest waterpark tower. The park is designed for multi-generational appeal, with high-thrill slides for older children and teenagers, alongside dedicated splash zones, lazy rivers, and wave pools for younger visitors. Throughout June, the Summer Splash activation at Meryal Beach will offer live entertainment and interactive activities, with appearances by Nickelodeon characters such as PAW Patrol and SpongeBob SquarePants.

For travel professionals, Meryal represents a significant anchor attraction that can drive extended stays and package bookings. Its location in Lusail, a rapidly developing district north of Doha, also aligns with broader hospitality and real estate developments in the area.

Desert Falls: A Dual-Concept Park on the Western Coast

On Qatar's western coastline, Desert Falls Water & Adventure Park at Hilton Salwa Beach Resort & Villas offers a hybrid experience combining water-based attractions with dry adventure activities. Spanning over 57,000 square metres, it is one of the largest waterparks in the Middle East, with more than 30 rides and attractions. Beyond the water slides, visitors can engage in go-karting and laser tag. Its proximity to the Abu Samra border crossing makes it particularly convenient for road travellers from Saudi Arabia and other GCC states.

This dual-concept park appeals to families seeking variety, and its integration with the Hilton Salwa Beach Resort & Villas provides a seamless accommodation and entertainment package for tour operators and travel agents.

Broader Summer Strategy and Industry Implications

The Hala Summer programme is supported by the Kids Go Free campaign, which offers complimentary access for children to select attractions and activities. This pricing strategy is designed to reduce the cost barrier for families and encourage longer stays. For airlines and hoteliers, the initiative signals a concerted effort to boost summer occupancy and airlift demand during a traditionally slower period for Qatar tourism.

Qatar Airways, the national carrier, has been expanding its network to facilitate inbound travel. The airline recently announced the resumption of daily Doha–Philadelphia flights from August 2026, adding capacity from the US market. Additionally, Qatar Airways expands Doha–Dubai service to five daily flights by June 2026, enhancing connectivity between two major GCC hubs. These route developments complement the Hala Summer programme by improving access for both regional and long-haul travellers.

The campaign also aligns with broader trends in summer travel demand. According to recent industry data, Southern Europe and North America lead summer 2026 travel demand surge, but the Middle East is actively competing for a share of family leisure travel. Qatar's investment in large-scale waterparks and family-friendly programming positions it to capture a portion of this demand, particularly from GCC residents who might otherwise travel to Europe or Southeast Asia.

For travel agents and tour operators, the Hala Summer programme offers a clear product to package: a short-haul, family-oriented destination with guaranteed entertainment, easy road access, and promotional pricing. The combination of Meryal and Desert Falls provides two distinct experiences within a single trip, allowing for multi-day itineraries. Hoteliers in Doha and Lusail can expect increased bookings from GCC families, particularly those staying at properties near the waterparks or offering shuttle services.

Visit Qatar has not disclosed specific visitor targets for Hala Summer 2026, but the programme's scope suggests a significant marketing push across digital and traditional channels in GCC markets. The inclusion of Nickelodeon-branded content at Meryal Beach is a clear attempt to appeal to younger children and their parents, leveraging global IP recognition.

For more details on events, ticketing, and partnership opportunities, travel professionals are directed to the official Visit Qatar website. The Hala Summer programme runs throughout the summer months, with peak activations in June and July.
