Rail Europe has expanded its European rail inventory by integrating Arenaways, a regional service operating across seven stations in Italy's Piedmont region. The move gives travel professionals a new tool to package slow-travel experiences for clients seeking authentic, locally rooted journeys beyond the high-speed corridors.

The Arenaways route links Cuneo, Busca, Costigliole Saluzzo, Verzuolo, Manta, Saluzzo, and Savigliano — a compact itinerary that showcases Piedmont's connection to the Slow Food movement, which originated in Italy to preserve local food traditions and biodiversity. Several stops, including Busca and Saluzzo, feature restaurants recognized in Slow Food's 2026 Osterie d'Italia guide, making the line particularly appealing for culinary-focused travelers.

Cultural and practical highlights

Key attractions along the route include the Castello della Manta, renowned for its late-Gothic frescoes, and the medieval center of Saluzzo. For families, children under four travel free, while those aged four to eleven receive a 50% discount on fares. Tickets are sold as standard point-to-point fares, allowing seamless integration into broader Italian or European itineraries.

This addition aligns with Rail Europe's strategy to strengthen regional rail offerings, complementing its existing high-speed network. The company has been actively expanding its portfolio to cater to the growing demand for slower, more immersive travel experiences — a trend also reflected in offerings like Silversea's S.A.L.T. voyages, which emphasize culinary access during Europe's harvest season.

For travel agents and tour operators, the Arenaways route opens up new possibilities for crafting niche itineraries that highlight Piedmont's lesser-known destinations. The region's medieval towns and Slow Food heritage provide a distinct selling point for clients interested in cultural and gastronomic tourism, an area that has seen increased interest as travelers seek more meaningful experiences.

Rail Europe's integration of Arenaways also reflects broader industry shifts toward sustainable and regional travel. As airlines and rail operators collaborate on intermodal solutions — such as Emirates Skywards adding 12,000 European rail routes to its loyalty platform — the ability to book regional rail segments through a single platform becomes increasingly valuable for travel professionals.

The Piedmont route is expected to appeal to international visitors who want to explore parts of Italy often overlooked by traditional tourism circuits. With its compact size and focus on local culture, the Arenaways service offers a practical way to incorporate slow travel into multi-destination trips across Italy or Europe.

Rail Europe continues to position itself as a key partner for travel professionals seeking to diversify their product offerings. By adding regional services like Arenaways, the company aims to meet the evolving preferences of travelers who prioritize authenticity and sustainability over speed.
