Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company has posted robust financial results for the first half of 2026, underscoring the resilience of Southeast Asian travel demand and the carrier's aggressive international expansion. The low-cost carrier reported separate revenue of VND45.030 trillion (approximately $1.71 billion) and consolidated revenue of VND51.536 trillion (around $1.96 billion), representing year-on-year growth of 26% and 44%, respectively.
The airline's performance reflects a strategic push beyond its domestic stronghold. Vietjet now operates 213 routes, with new international connections to China, Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan, and the Czech Republic. These additions are designed to strengthen trade, investment, and tourism links between Vietnam and key markets across Asia and Europe.
Fleet expansion and financial position
Vietjet's long-term growth strategy includes an investment in over 600 next-generation aircraft, one of the largest orders in the Asia-Pacific region. This fleet plan supports the airline's ambition to build a global network by 2030. As of the end of June 2026, total assets reached VND149.093 trillion (approximately $5.68 billion), with a net debt-to-equity ratio of 2.37 times.
In the second quarter alone, Vietjet operated nearly 33,000 flights, carrying more than 6.2 million passengers. The airline's ancillary services, including hot meals, duty-free shopping, and digital booking options, are being enhanced to improve the passenger experience and drive additional revenue.
Integrated aviation ecosystem
Beyond passenger transport, Vietjet is building an integrated aviation ecosystem. Its ground handling subsidiary, AirportNEO, has commenced operations, while air cargo and training activities are expanding. These ventures are expected to contribute to the group's diversified income streams.
The airline is also investing in technology to improve operational efficiency. Partnerships with international solution providers are integrating artificial intelligence into flight operations, with a focus on optimising fuel consumption and reducing emissions. This aligns with broader industry efforts to enhance sustainability, as seen in corporate travel cost trends that reflect easing capacity constraints.
Vietjet's brand value reached $906 million as of May 2026, according to the airline, reflecting its growing international stature. The carrier's performance comes amid a mixed regional landscape, with some markets facing headwinds. For instance, Accor's H1 2026 results showed resilience despite Middle East challenges, while Ras Al Khaimah's tourism growth highlights the strength of domestic demand in other parts of the region.
Vietjet's expansion strategy is closely watched by industry analysts, as it reflects broader trends in low-cost carrier growth across Asia. The airline's ability to secure new routes and maintain high load factors will be key to sustaining its momentum. With a focus on innovation and customer experience, Vietjet is positioning itself as a major player in the global aviation market.
