Vietnam Airlines has inaugurated a new nonstop service connecting Hanoi's Noi Bai International Airport with Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, marking a strategic addition to its long-haul network. The inaugural flight, VN83, departed on 16 June carrying nearly 300 passengers aboard an Airbus A350, making Vietnam Airlines the first Vietnamese carrier to offer a direct link between the two capitals.

Route Details and Schedule

The airline will operate three roundtrip flights per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. This schedule provides consistent connectivity for business and leisure travelers between Southeast Asia and one of Europe's key aviation hubs. Amsterdam Schiphol serves as a gateway to numerous European destinations, offering passengers onward connections via partner airlines and alliances.

Nguyen Quang Trung, Executive Vice President of Vietnam Airlines, commented: "The inauguration of the Hanoi–Amsterdam service reflects Vietnam Airlines' continued commitment to expanding its international network and strengthening Vietnam's connectivity with key global markets."

Network Expansion and Market Impact

With the addition of Amsterdam, Vietnam Airlines now operates 12 nonstop routes to eight major European cities, including Paris, London, and Frankfurt. The carrier's European expansion aligns with growing demand for travel between Vietnam and the continent, driven by trade, investment, and tourism flows. The Netherlands is a significant economic partner for Vietnam, and the direct air link is expected to facilitate business exchanges and cultural ties.

From 1 July 2026, Vietnam Airlines will also increase its Hanoi–Moscow service frequency to four weekly flights, responding to rising market demand and supporting Vietnam's broader economic integration. The airline continues to evaluate opportunities for further network growth across Europe and Asia.

Travel Trade Implications

For travel professionals, the new route opens additional options for corporate travel, group tours, and MICE itineraries linking Vietnam with the Netherlands and beyond. Agents and tour operators can leverage the direct connection to package multi-city European trips via Schiphol, while hoteliers in both markets may see increased demand from business and leisure segments.

Vietnam Airlines' investment in widebody aircraft like the Airbus A350 underscores its focus on long-haul efficiency and passenger comfort. The carrier's expanding European footprint positions it competitively against other Asian airlines serving the continent, such as Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific.

As the travel industry continues to recover and evolve, direct routes like Hanoi–Amsterdam provide valuable connectivity for both outbound Vietnamese travelers and inbound European tourists. The service also complements existing partnerships with global distribution systems like Amadeus and Sabre, ensuring seamless booking for agents worldwide.
