Miral, the Abu Dhabi-based developer of Yas Island, has confirmed a major expansion of Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi with two new DC Comics-inspired rides. The additions — Kryptonite Collider and Superman Up and Away — are designed to deepen the park's Metropolis-themed area and reinforce Yas Island's position as a global entertainment hub.

Kryptonite Collider, a centrifuge ride, will open on 26 July 2026. Guests are cast as test subjects in Lex Luthor's Everyman Project, experiencing simulated superhuman abilities through motion, audio, and lighting effects powered by kryptonite. The attraction is located within the existing Metropolis land.

Superman Up and Away, expected to debut in 2028, is described as a next-generation flying roller coaster. The ride aims to replicate the sensation of flight, with guests joining Superman on a mission to protect Metropolis. Further details on the coaster's specifications and capacity are expected closer to launch.

Strategic Significance for Yas Island and Abu Dhabi Tourism

The expansion comes as Abu Dhabi continues to invest heavily in leisure infrastructure to diversify its tourism offering beyond business travel and luxury retail. Yas Island already hosts Ferrari World, Yas Waterworld, and the Yas Marina Circuit, and the new DC attractions are expected to boost visitor numbers from both regional and long-haul markets.

Jonathan Brown, Chief Portfolio Officer at Miral, said: "The introduction of these new DC-themed attractions marks an exciting chapter in the continued evolution of Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi." Simon Robinson, President of Global Experiences at Warner Bros. Discovery, added: "These new DC attractions reflect our ongoing commitment to innovation and storytelling at the highest level."

For travel professionals, the timing aligns with broader trends in destination development. As FIFA World Cup 2026 sets new border management blueprints, destinations like Abu Dhabi are investing in anchor attractions to capture spillover demand from mega-events. Similarly, the surge in Abu Dhabi luxury real estate is drawing hotel brands that cater to wealthy homebuyers, creating a virtuous cycle for tourism.

Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi, which opened in 2018, covers 1.5 million square feet and is one of the largest indoor theme parks globally. The park is operated under a licensing agreement between Miral and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Experiences. The new rides are part of a phased investment strategy to refresh the park's offering and maintain competitive edge against regional rivals such as Dubai Parks and Resorts and Saudi Arabia's Qiddiya.

For tour operators and travel agents, the expansion provides a fresh selling point for Abu Dhabi packages. The park's indoor format makes it a year-round attraction, particularly valuable during the Gulf's hot summer months. Airlines serving Abu Dhabi, including Etihad Airways and Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, may benefit from increased leisure demand.

Miral has not disclosed the total investment for the two attractions, but industry analysts estimate the cost at several hundred million dirhams. The company is also developing other projects on Yas Island, including a new marine life park and additional hotel inventory.

As the travel industry gears up for major events like the World Cup, destinations that offer compelling, IP-driven experiences are well-positioned to capture both leisure and MICE traffic. The Cleveland Convention Centre's urban farm expansion shows how venues are diversifying their appeal; Abu Dhabi's approach is similarly strategic, leveraging global entertainment brands to differentiate its tourism product.
