LEGOLAND Windsor Resort has announced that LEGO F1 will headline the Thrill Zone at its LEGO Festival 2026, running from 20 July to 31 August. This marks the first major intellectual property partnership for the festival, which aims to blend motorsport excitement with creative play for families visiting the Berkshire attraction.
The Thrill Zone will feature high-energy activities designed to immerse guests in a race-day atmosphere. Among the highlights is the Brick Stop Challenge, where participants race against the clock to complete a LEGO F1 pit stop tyre change. The Pit Lane Hype Show offers a rhythmic performance using only tools and LEGO bricks, while aspiring engineers can design and race their own LEGO F1 vehicles.
F1 Academy and Global Reach
The festival will also spotlight the F1 Academy, a junior racing championship focused on promoting female talent in motorsport. This inclusion aligns with broader industry efforts to diversify motorsport audiences and inspire young visitors. The LEGO Festival 2026 will run across six LEGOLAND resorts worldwide, including locations in Denmark, Germany, Japan, Malaysia, and the United States, offering a consistent experience for international travelers.
Neil Poulter, Vice President at LEGOLAND Windsor Resort, said: “LEGO Festival is built for kids and powered by play, it’s a limited time experience where creativity takes the lead and imaginations run wild. With LEGO F1 headlining our new Thrill Zone, families can dive into the race day atmosphere at this first of its kind pit stop challenge.”
The festival is included in regular ticket prices, making it an accessible add-on for families visiting the resort. For travel professionals, this represents a new anchor event that could drive summer bookings to the UK, particularly from European markets. Similar destination festivals have proven effective in attracting family travelers, as seen with Czechia's summer festival campaign targeting GCC travelers and Chinatown Singapore's Dragon Boat Festival.
LEGOLAND Windsor, operated by Merlin Entertainments, has long been a key player in the UK family tourism sector. The addition of a major IP like LEGO F1 could enhance its appeal to travel agents and tour operators looking for packaged experiences. The festival's timing—spanning the peak summer holiday period—positions it as a potential anchor for multi-day itineraries in the South East of England.
For the travel trade, the LEGO Festival 2026 offers a new product to market to families, particularly those with children aged 2–12. The integration of F1 Academy also provides a unique angle for promoting female empowerment in sports, which could resonate with educational travel segments. As the festival runs across multiple resorts globally, it also presents opportunities for cross-border marketing campaigns.
Travel professionals should note that the festival is a limited-time experience, which could create urgency for bookings. Similar events, such as the Murshidabad Mango Festival and Starboard Hotels' Bluebird K7 Festival, have demonstrated how themed festivals can boost local tourism. LEGOLAND Windsor's partnership with LEGO F1 could set a new benchmark for family entertainment in the UK leisure market.
