Celestyal Cruises is moving beyond its traditional Eastern Mediterranean stronghold with a new series of Western Mediterranean itineraries designed for travellers who value depth over speed. The brand's first dedicated season in this region, aboard the 1,266-guest Celestyal Discovery, emphasizes extended port times and less-commercialized destinations.
Mediterranean Odyssey: A 14-Night Itinerary
The flagship voyage, Mediterranean Odyssey: Spain, Portugal & Morocco, runs 14 nights and includes overnight stays in Barcelona (via Tarragona) and Lisbon. The ship will also call at Sète in southern France, a working port that offers a more local alternative to Marseille or Cannes. In total, the itinerary features 14 maiden calls, signalling that Celestyal is not simply repackaging existing routes.
“We are creating a different rhythm for exploring the Western Mediterranean,” said a Celestyal spokesperson. “Instead of rushing between ports, guests have time to experience cities after the day-trippers leave and to discover smaller harbours that larger ships skip.”
Flexible Booking Options
Celestyal offers several ways to experience the new season:
- Full 14-night Mediterranean Odyssey voyage
- Two seven-night segments between Barcelona and Lisbon
- Eight-night Mediterranean Riviera repositioning sailings from Athens to Barcelona
These can be combined into journeys of up to 26 nights, linking the Eastern and Western Mediterranean. The inaugural repositioning departs Athens on November 28, 2026, with the season running through winter 2026–2027 and again in winter 2027–2028.
All-Inclusive Pricing
Celestyal positions itself as boutique rather than ultra-luxury, but the fare structure is straightforward: meals, soft drinks, WiFi, port fees, and gratuities are all included. This approach reduces onboard upselling and lets passengers focus on the itinerary.
The move comes as several cruise lines expand into less-saturated Mediterranean markets. For context, Silversea recently partnered with PerryGolf to offer golf-focused sailings, while APT's new river ship Ostara targets luxury travellers on European waterways. Celestyal's Western Med push differentiates itself by prioritizing slower, more immersive port experiences.
